Well, a small suggestion

Postby Retrogamer_ST » Sun Jan 29, 2012 9:10 pm

This forum is mainly for Atari ST, STE, TT and Falcon?

The name is "Atari-Forum.com"

Why not have a small section for the 8 bit Atari and the game consoles too?

A small section like

* Atari 8 bit computers
* Atari 2600/5200/7800
* Atari Jaguar
* Atari Lynx

That would be a quite small section with only 4 departments that covers the rest of Atari.

Just a small suggestion that perhaps would make the forum "complete Atari"

I think there are already some great 8bit Atari forums out there to be fair.
Mega"SST" 12, MegaSTE, STE: Desktopper case, IDE interface, UltraSatan (8GB + 512Mb) + HXC floppy emulator. Plus some STE's/STFM's

Agree

But then we're talking forums specialized on 8bit Atari. This was more a small compliment, the forum will still be 98% 16 and 32 bit Atari. But members don't have to visit other forums to discuss some 8bit gaming and tweaking.

You know better then me how this forum shall look, it was just a small suggestion. ;)

Not to be snotty at all. I can understand the thought and it makes sense. There is several good 8bit forums, no question about that.

At the same time it's a bit confusing. We have many sections for 16 and 32 bit Atari, right? We even have a section for "non Atari" platforms. (Amiga, C64, PC, ZX Spectrum etc). But no section at all for the 8 bit machines. Perhaps one single forum section that covers all 8bit Atari?

Else it will be kind of, we covers everything but 8bit Atari? Because you can't post anything about 8bit Atari in the "non Atari" platforms. [smilie=greencolorz4_pdt_02.gif]

;) :D

AtariAge is the main forum for everything Atari released - consoles and computers. Would seem a bit daft treading on their toes.
My main site: http://www.mug-uk.co.uk - slowly digging up the bits from my past (and re-working a few): Atari ST, Sega 8-bit (game hacks) and NDS (Music ripping guide).

I develop a free Word (for Windows) add-in that's available for Word 2007 upwards. It's a fix-it toolbox that will allow power Word users to fix document errors. You can find it at: http://www.mikestoolbox.co.uk

Remember that Atariage is a specialized forum for 8bit Atari, for real serious discussions with many skilled 8bit programmers. This single forum would be for reccommend good games, some handy links etc and far from Atariage. Just to make the forum a bit more complete. Most people here are 16 bit users and some of them own both 8 and 16 bit machines.

Atariage have a 16 bit section, ST/TT section. ;)
http://www.atariage.com/forums/forum/20 ... computers/

But it's not up to me to tell you how you should run your forum, you do that much better then me. :)

I think it would be better for all websites concerned to simply have a links section pointing to each others sites. Old fashioned maybe but sensible nonetheless.

Most specialized forums has a single forum for other then the main stuff. Even Atariage has a single 16 bit forum. Then people don't have to be members in several forums to discuss small trivial things. For serious talk, visit Atariage, for smalltalk about games and to exchange good links, stay in this forum?

For serious discussions about ST, visit this forum. For smalltalk about ST, stay on Atariage. For smalltalk about 8bit Atari stay in this forum, for serious talk, visit Atariage.

Right now you can discuss everything, but 8bit Atari in this forum. Even C64 and other platforms has it's own forum. You can't discuss 8bit Atari in the "Non Atari" platform forum.

Don't you think that it is a bit of a shame that the only place to discuss 8bit Atari in this forum, is in the chat? Especially when some members own a 8bit machines. Even C64 and Amiga has it's own forum in the "Non Atari" forum. I like both machines, both ST and 8bit

I don't think it would hurt. And maybe a MIDI section too. 8)

Agree.

I was a midi user too in the Atari days using both Pro 24, Cubase and several other midi apps.

It's a bit sad to see that the only computer without a home in this forum is Atari 8bit when even C64 and Amiga has it's own forum in "Other Platforms".

if you're desperate to chat 8bit, use the 'general chat' forum.

Don't you think it's a bit out of place to discuss 8bit computers in that forum? When you can discuss C64 in a special forum for computers? Don't seems to be very logic?

Atari 800 threads among threads about movies, music and weather?

Well, then i'll discuss C64, Amiga and ZX Spectrum instead, in a forum made for computers right at the bottom of this forum. SNES, Megadrive and Gameboy too, everything but the thing you can't post anything about, Atari 8bit.

I think you might have misunderstood what the "Non Atari Platform" sub forum is actually there for. It is to discuss software / games /demos made by Atari-coders on different platforms. In fact there are some posts in there for the 2600 that shouldn't be there.

For the sake of arguing, I'll create an 8bit corner.

Thank you. :)

I think it's a good idea because some members owns both 8bit and 16bit computers. The only difference is that 8bit discussions don't get mixed up with general chat about eveything.

Honestly, when I want to do anything 8bit - I go to AtariAge.

It's more 8bit 'centric.

One of the best things about AtariForum to me is that it is ST specific.

<shrugs> I have no problem at all visiting both sites daily. :)

it's done. I'll post a request in the moderators forum about getting stuff moved into it, but this won't be a quick process.

Sure, it's a specialized forum for Atari 8bit, but for small general chat about 8bit computers, no need to leave this forum. Atariage does the same by having one single forum for 16 bit computers.

AtariAge has a single forum for every atari computer or console.The activity on each forum is another subject. The ST community isn't as big or as active as the a8 community so the ST section of AA isn't very active. That's all.

Which was my point. Our 8bit department isn't any substitution for Atariage. Just a place to post about the 8bit computers sometimes without getting the threads mixed up with talk about weather, music, movies and other non computer subjects.

What about the MIDI programmers, demo or game developers? :) We have had a number of midi discussions on here already.

nice to see the A8 no here.. maybe help to promote cross development! never a bad thing!

I think that all falls under the existing coding sections to be honest. As for users of MIDI-based applications, there are already Applications (Atari ST area) and Professionals (Falcon / TT / Clones area) sub forums that cater for this along with any other application. If we open this can of worms, everyone will want sub forums for everything.

Creating sub forums is easy. Trawling through 1000's of topics and trying to decide whether they need to be moved or not it quite another thing ;)
