Kryoflux & 5.25" floppies written by an ATARI810 drive

Post all your Kryoflux related topics in here. From questions about the hardware through to disks you've managed to image up and, probably most importantly, write back without any problems :)

Kryoflux & 5.25" floppies written by an ATARI810 drive

Postby mcc » Fri Nov 16, 2018 6:32 pm

Hi,

(I am no native speaker...)

this is my first post here...hello @ all!

I tried searching for that topic first but found nothing ... mostly maybe due to
a wrong selection of words...
I had read the kryoflux manual, but the manual uses a flippy-moded drive, which
I dont have (yet).

I want to recover data from my old 5.25" floppies, which were written by a ATARI810 (no happy or else)
drive...partly on both sides by flipping the disk over.
I know about the impact on using those "flippy" disks on a normal double headed 5.,25" drive.
Currently I have not modified the 5.25" drive.

I am on Linux and the dtc version is of 2015 (newest release). The kryoflux hardware is up to date.

Two questions -- to check whether anything has survived all the years...
1.) Is it possible to read at least one side of those disks with kroflux with an unmodified drive?
2.) What dtc-commandline I have to use in this case?

Thank you very much in advance for any help!
Cheers!

Yes, you can read the top side with a standard drive. The exact command line depends on which kind of drive you have. If it's DD (40 tracks), or HD (80 tracks).

You can probably find somebody nearby that would be able to read both sides of the disk. For this purpose, I recommend going to Atariage, a much more popular forum for 8-bit users.
