Re: Some initial improvements

My free site being offline (I wonder if they do that on purpose but it may paranoia again), I'll announce some great improvements here again:

- I "repaired" the Nostalgia demo menu, which I had broken (OK, that's no improvement), and "fixed" the famous (?) Lemmings scroller screen (this is).

Image

It didn't work 100% in Steem because the techniques used just weren't emulated ("hardscroll").

- Games running better: No Buddies Land (hardscroll), Sentinel (mouse), and of course Final Conflict (timings).
- No more repulsive hacks for Enchanted Land and the SoWatt demo.
- Plus some other demos that run better.

Coming soon (when I can upload to my site again)!

BBC menu 52:

Another case of reporting an incorrect shifter draw pointer position caused Steem to miss the overscan of this menu. Strangely, it would generally run OK if you quit then restarted Steem, which ultimately pointed (LOL) to the fix.

Coming soon!

Edit: Talked too soon again... it didn't work for the reason I thought, back to study :(
Edit 2: OK, I found a hack that is as good as the one for Final Conflict.

Intrigued by the ideal size of borders, a bit envious of Hatari's large display while still wanting to maintain a 800x600 fullscreen, I made it very convenient:

Image

3 settings!
The last one gives a picture of 416 x 280, nice for some programs, but revealing some trash in the borders for some others.
Eg: Overscan 6; D4/NGC; D4/Nightmare; SoWatt Sync; No Cooper Greetings, etc. Probably that was invisible on a real ST.

The 'very large' borders finally allow to render 'Death of the left border' +- like on the pouet screen (count squares):

Hi, I just uploaded on my site a new build that should take you a bit further with MOLZ.
Apparently it never worked in Steem.

Super Neo Demo Show by The Exceptions

Image

Wait! Steem didn't run this demo already? No it didn't, you got no graphic, no sound, no animation and an unreadable scroller. It's pretty surprising that it didn't come to attention earlier. Oh but Steem opened the border alright! In other words, this program needed a magistral atemi, and it got one.
This was actually the first demo to open the lower border so as soon as I realised that the problem was in Steem and not in the disk image (it runs fine in Hatari and SainT), I resolved to fix it before the release of Steem 3.3, because it's a milestone demo, and a nice one at that. The bug was very unexpectedly in MMU emulation.

EDIT:
Since my 'fix' broke something else, I had to delve a bit more. There are issues, but this demo worked already in Steem, only with 512KB or 2MB.

Dear Steven,

As I see you took over to improve STeem.
Could you please look at the MIDI feature of Notator-program.
When you play some project, it jerks a lot.

Maybe one day, but that's far from a priority.
Besides, Atari's strength in MIDI was due to tight hardware. You lose this benefit by using crappy PC hardware.

No, MIDI itself is working quite good with the other programs, only Notator shows inadequate behaviour while playing its projects.
FYI I was the one who helped STeem authors test various MIDI aspects, but they couldn't fix Notator issue. Maybe you will be more lucky...

Also there are some issues with using EMUTOS as TOS image for STeem, but as usual TOS image shows correct behavior, EMUTOS people said there are a STeem problems...
