Some TOS 2.06 Patched STOS Games and... Robotz!

Postby Heavy Stylus » Sun Nov 04, 2007 8:08 pm

Many thanks to Mug UK for providing me with pointers and tools to help me with this! :)

Here are some STOS games from my collection that I've fixed to work with TOS 2.06. The process involved unpacking the programs and running a STOS patching tool, and then repacking them using the very excellent UPX packer.

I did this because I'm about to get an upgraded STE with TOS 2.06, and I wanted to play these on my machine. I posted them here because I thought some of you guys might like to try these on your machines too. :)

All are HD installable - just copy over the files to your HD.

If people are voting 'No' it would be nice to know why... Anyway, these are all I have at the moment, but I was considering adding new ones to the thread when I find and fix others.

Fine.

Since you named thread 'TOS 2.06 patched games', and there is many of non-STOS games which runs not on TOS 2.06, can we get some list, links of such ones? Of course question is for everyone...

I voted yes for this as no doubt there will be people who want them and it of course games should in principle run on any TOS, so those which don't why not patch and release them

Everyone in some way benefits

Hey James, I've seen that you're still looking for a TOS 2.06 working version of Robotz (not a STOS game).

Couldn't sleep tonight, so I decided to give it a go.

Here it is, fixed for TOS 2.x (and the Falcon)...

Cute little game, btw. :-)

Cheers

You're welcome! :-)

It's just a quick fix. If it doesn't work, try a clean boot (no big HD caches, not too much stuff in the AUTO folder)....

Yeah - it doesn't work from Teradesk, but if I load it from GEM without too many memory heavy programs in my Auto folder it's fine.

I wish someone could train it so you could touch the walls without dying... [hint]

Anyway... here's another so-so STOS game now fixed!

More on the way this weekend...

Klaz has unpacked Slug (I've just got to patch it for TOS 2.06 and re-pack it with UPX), and I've hex-edited a game called Prensorium so that it runs from any location (rather than depending on A:\).

Cheat mode for Slug2092:

Move the joystick Left, Right, Left, Right on the selection screen. This will then reveal a menu with three other options.

1) Sound Effects replay (so you can hear them all)

2) Graphics Dump (show all the sprites and backgrounds)

3) Smart Keys ON/OFF option. Smart Keys enables some level skip and "kill em all" keys which you can use to get past the harder levels.

Have fun!

Hey Mug - thanks for the cheat, but that game's not fixed yet! You're talking about Slug 2092 - the 'sequel' of the game posted above.

Anyway, this one is - 'Amazeing', which unfortunately isn't as great as the name would lead you to believe. Klaz has worked his magic again on this one too. :)

Worth loading if only to see the worst starfield effect ever.

Ooops! That was the one you sent me via PM wasn't it. D'oh & double d'oh!

To make up for it, here's the cheat for Slug :)

Press SPACE to enter a level code, now enter CHEAT for a full page of text from the programmer etc.

Or, if you don't want to read all that, just press * to cheat during the game.

Level Skip: Enter GOTO XX on the Level code page where XX is the level number.

Two new games - both run now on TOS 2.06 (and of course HD) and have been UPX packed to make them smaller :)

Purify is quite a good game, check it out!

Purify is indeed a nice game. It already works fine on my ST though. However, I know this isn't the case with everyone.

Fluffies seemed nice when I tried it, but for some reason I couldn't do the double-jump move when pressing up three times. It just didn't work for me so I never got anywhere.

Well, I fixed them because they wouldn't work on my 4MB STE under TOS 2.06. Now they do :)

Fluffies; for a special jump, hold down fire and hold up while you jump three times. That should do it ;)

I think that if you are using the latest versions of the TOS patch for STOS, then they should work on TOS 4.04 (on Falcon). Unless the game uses some extensions, which aren't all compatible with Falcon. Some extensions will work, some won't. This is my understanding of what I have read on the subject.

What's the way to patch STOS programs for TOS 2.06? I got this one (attached). It does not recognize joystick button pressure.
Tried in this thread, but I had no success: viewtopic.php?f=115&t=32982

Currently it works under TOS 1.02

That's because it's a disk image that you're trying to patch and not the actual STOS compiled program?

You need to copy off the .PRG file from inside the AUTO folder on that disk image. Unpack that file and then patch it. Copy the patched file back onto the disk in the same AUTO folder and try it again.
