For internet access, under windows, you need to bridge your connexion...

Look here how I solved this problem

Sorry it's in french, but with pictures, it's easy

Look at post #5 => https://www.yaronet.com/topics/154795-f ... our-aranym

and in english, but incomplet : viewtopic.php?p=227166#p227166

This is my first atempt to succes with a Compilation (EasyMiNT, fVDI and XAES) for Windows.

Working: GBE-Basic environment Todo: Printing via NVDI or Speedo GDOS
Sound via MX-Player and XM-files Internet with Mail support

Problems: The latest Aranym under Windows has seriously problems with latest EmuTOS. I have Windows 7 and it doesn't work with the latest release... so i use TOS 4.04 instead, with Aranym Cookie. The NVDI frezzes the hole System in most situations. Running from MiNT doesn't either solve the problem ... The IDE-SLAVE HDD are with my old HDD-Driver not supported. :shrug:

EmuTOS Aranym version should work better with Aranym than TOS v4:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/emutos ... p/download

Code: Select all

[GLOBAL]
TOS =
EmuTOS = emutos-aranym.img
...

It boots faster, and if one wants to use hard disk image instead of directories, EmuTOS works with those without additional drivers.

What kind of problem do you have with EmuTOS?

I had the same problem as you with nvdi ...

For NVDI, the best way under aranym, is to install NVDI at first time, before install easymint...

So for me and it's work nicely :

1 : Aranym & TOS 4.04
2 : Install NVDI
3 : Install Easymint
4 : With Xboot3 or Dirsort, place Mint.prg before Nvdi.Prg in the AUTO Folder...

Please specify want you mean with "latest". If you are using EmuTOS 0.9.9, then you may be better of using a snapshot version of Aranym (available at https://bintray.com/aranym/aranym-files ... sion#files). There had been some changes in EmuTOS that were reflected in Aranym, but since there had been no "official" release of Aranym since 1.0.2, there might indeed be problems v1.0.2 when using newer version of EmuTOS.

so i use TOS 4.04 instead, with Aranym Cookie.

That should work, but when running GEM programs mostly, emutos-aranym.img might be a better choice. You don't even need a harddisk-driver then.

Does EmuTOS implement the Falcon sound XBIOS now?

If you mean just the excutables: they are available at https://github.com/aranym/aranym (both the latest official release, and current snapshot versions). If you mean pre-installed disk images: there still is AFROS, but it is quite outdated. In general, it is difficult to provide a complete installation, as most of the software you probably want to use is still copyrighted.

Hello !
I've just started trying to run Aranym this week (I use afros to get start) and so I'l following this thread too. I am sharing my progress as a way to report problems and (hopeful) share the solutions:
I got started with
* aranym-1.0.2-sdl2-setup
* emutos-512k-0.9.9.1
* I'm running Windows 10 on a DELL.

I've had the following problems:

* I had the "config" dialog of Aranym in the beginning but now it doesn't appear anymore. My laptop doesn't have a "break" or "pause" keys. So it seems I can only tweak config files using some text editor (I use notepad++)

* my laptop has a touchpad but no middle button so I can't release input grab, I have to use "alt tab" to loose the focus from aranym

* I had problems with "stuck key" : when I was opening files from Teradesk, and press an arrow key to navigate, then it's like I never released the key. Following Torsten's advice I used emutos-aranym instead of the "normal" Emutos. Was still not working. Updating aranym to aranym-1.0.2-cygwin-i386-ba95d431-sdl2-setup from the link he shared fixed that problem.

* currently the only problem I have is that the mouse is "blocked" and doesn't want to go everywhere in the screen. E.g. I can't move it to the complete right. But then if I completely to the left of the screen, then I can move it completely to the right ok (it kind of "recalibrates"), but the problem may reappear on the left. Same with top/bottom range. This happens both in windows and full screen mode.

Lots of tweacking to do and need to find out how to get sparemint installed but aranym looks an awesome achievement !

Vincent

Try to find Clocky for Aranym. This will auto grab/ungrab your mouse when you move in or out of the Aranym window.

You can use the text-editor to change the hotkey for setup to something else. Once that is done, you should be able to invoke the setup screen from inside aranym again. But of course not all options that are available can be changed via the GUI.

my laptop has a touchpad but no middle button so I can't release input grab, I have to use "alt tab" to loose the focus from aranym

Similar as above, you can also define a key for "ungrab" (left-shift+left-control+left-alt+Escape by default).

currently the only problem I have is that the mouse is "blocked" and doesn't want to go everywhere in the screen.

Yes, this happens when the host and the emulated Atari have different ideas about the absolute position of the mouse cursor, which mostly happens after boot or when changing resolutions, when the Atari resets the position to the middle of the screen. Hatari suffers from the same problem. The already mentioned clocky.prg can help in this case.

Lots of tweacking to do and need to find out how to get sparemint installed but aranym looks an awesome achievement !

Good luck. It will always be helpful for others sharing your experiences.

Hey Thorsten, the Githud where can I find the binaries for Windows ?
I found the repology packages link does not it.
I am looking for USB capable Aranym for Windows.

Thanks you all for your help !
I updated to FreeMiNT 1.18 / XAAES 1.5.5 with no problem. Thank you for the pointer to Clicky, I got it to work almost completely and I could create a layout for my DELL E5578 laptop.
The Alt keys are required on a French keyboard for characters like ~, #,{, [, |, `, \, ^, @, ], } but I can't get them to work. When I type alt-something in Qed, I see the cursor stops flashing (so it must be detecting I'm doing something) but the expected character is not displayed. The Clocky version included is from 2001/09/19 (so it says at boot), I can't find a more recent one.

This doc https://github.com/aranym/aranym/blob/master/NEWS says
2013/04/15 - version 0.9.15 released
==========
The main new feature of this release is the seamless mouse integration mode:
o Mouse input handling is improved a lot. Now ARAnyM has a seamless mouse
integration when new Clocky (2013/04/15) is loaded.

But I haven't found that new Clocky yet, I'll keep searching ! :)

You can use the links to bintray where the status is reported, at the top of the readme. In bintray, you have to choose the "files" tab, then look for the archive of your platform.

USB support however is not compiled in by default. You have to check out the sources, and compile it yourself for that. Unfortunately for cygwin it is not as trivial as for linux, you may want to take a look at the scripts in the .appveyor directory which are used for the automated builds in a cygwin environment (you can omit the parts of course that build the distribution archives). Then add --enable-usbhost to the flags passed to configure. The install_prerequisites.sh script will give you an idea of what packages you might need to install first.

The main problem with cygwin is, that is uses a bit of mixture: almost everything is taken from cygwin, to get a unix-like environment, except for SDL, where the plain win32 version is used. The configure script should be able to detect that in the meantime, but you may have to watch out. You also have to make sure that, when running, the win32 SDL.dll is found, otherwise you end up with a version that tries to connect to a X-Server.

Oh well, then that is out for me. :(
I do not have a development environment on my Windows, all I have is just browser, office, photo and video editing software.

Oh oops, that was a lie. Just noticed that the snapshot builds have it enabled. The last one should be either
aranym-1.0.2-cygwin-i386-ba95d431-sdl1-setup.exe or
aranym-1.0.2-cygwin-i386-ba95d431-sdl2-setup.exe

(or just their zip archives) and can be found at

Yes, if you want, I can upload my config on DropBox... I've adapted the BeeKey from Faucon2001 for Windows...

Or just download the Beekey'ISO, open it with WinRAR, and look inside & search the biggest file... Extract it & open it with WinRAR too... Inside you have all the discs partitions... :cheers:
