GEmulator 3.8 or other dos emulators

Postby Bsauvage » Sun Jul 24, 2011 5:20 am

I am trying to setup an st emulator on a dos only machine.
Been trying to use gemulator 3.8 but there is no user manual: anybody has a link explaining how to set it up? (the readme included revert to the 3.0 user manual which is nowhere to be found...)

Alternatively would anybody recommend a dos based emulator ? My goal is to run games like captain blood or sundog.

Thanks

I've never tried the DOS version of Gemulator, but I think it needed physical ROMS on a special ISA card in order to run?

A very capable (but old) emulator for DOS is PacifiST - it's actually my favourite ST emulator, but development stopped and it was never released as open source :(

It does run most things though. I did set up an old Pentium 1 laptop and wrote a very rudimentary menu in Autoexec.bat where i could select different TOS/Machine setups at boot time. As close as I could get to owning a ST Book or STacy ;)
Mega"SST" 12, MegaSTE, STE: Desktopper case, IDE interface, UltraSatan (8GB + 512Mb) + HXC floppy emulator. Plus some STE's/STFM's

Thanks for this. Managed to run pacifist 0.49b and it's flawless!
Well it's ok but a bit hard to use as I'm actually running on an ipad2 inside dospad (a dosbox port) So it's quite slow but still amazing to get there!

8O That's some doing... virtual machine within a virtual machine.
So the dual core ipad2 is still not fast enough ?

No unfortunately. Video is ok (with frameskip) but hashed. But sound is completely garbled.
Culprit is dospad though, which is just fine for not too demanding dos games but shows his limits in more complex games (fallout or daggerfall plays but at crawling pace). Hopefully it gets optimized one day then we can run pacifist inside... But would rather see native iPad St emulation with outcast or something alike.
