ok i will try to explain it a little better, in honor of google translate.
let say that a couple a months from now you decide to have color cycle in your format.
then zView and my Viewer would not working with your pictures any more, because you have to change the header to have the color cycle informations. and if you again change your format to have a custom width / height, then you have to change the picture header again.
by adding a format byte, then we would know, if our viewer can show this picture or not,
so that the Viewer don't crash

1 word header: $ffff reading always supported
     becomes: $ffff to $ffb2
$0 to $2 for the resolution
$f to "$b : number of saved cycle. 0 to 4

........first color cycle (if used)
1 byte: color - identical Neo and Tny -
High 4 bits: color left
low 4 bits: color right

1 byte: direction and speed
High 4 bits: direction 0,1,2 - identical DEgas Elite
low 4 bits: speed 0 à 128 identical Degas Elite

........second color cycle (if used)
........third color cycle (if used)
........fourth color cycle (if used)

1 word number itération for use in slide shows identical Tny and Neo

Following are unchanged

* colors cycles are saved (on or off) only if the values are consistent

Custom width and height, what use?

cool :)
could you not change the first byte to something else for example $FE to indicate that it is a new version?

Custom width and height can be use for different ting

for over/under scan pictures.
if you only want to make a picture that fill the top half of the screen
or if you want to make a very high picture that you later can scroll in.

i have pm you with some pictures and my viewer.

It is progressing slowly
Changing the MI1 format. It now records from 0 to 4 color cycles
TNY backup OK
Support for colors ART cycles, NEO, IP1.
Conversion of color cycles (except ART)
TNY to NEO and when there is a cycle
MI1 only to validate the cycles (active or not active)
PI-3 to unrestricted

He certainly still some bugs that I have not seen

Adding TPI extension
Conversion finished to PC1-3 and compressed PNT.

Fixed a strange bug. Compressive Mi2 returned bad file size only medium resolution with an image having at least one color cycle
I did not find anything :?:
so I made otherwise

Sorry about your image ... but it is voluntary. (I can remove)
This is not done with MI-3.
But with MI-8 which allows to play with the image planes.

Warning.
This new version of MI-3 only loads standard images corresponding to the resolutions of the screen. I did not test the width and height in all the loaded formats.Be careful

The backup TINY and optimized: less than 3 bytes according to images. Compatible with tested programs

Same for STAD least 1 to 3 bytes and encountered no discomfort.

TINY load as:
  - Images that have bytes too (not all ... Must be tested).
-The Images with the number of registered data and 8000 bytes superior reality.

PNT backup and TPI corrected. RGB pallet was not good.

Degas PC 1-3 optimized compression but sometimes it could be better.

I added the ICE extension for loading images. but I have not found how to test the file is an image well. Be careful

I started the format BMP windows a few months ago ..... that night, I have advanced a little bit :coffe:

Add "bmp", "dft", "eza", "Iff85"

Bmp is not completed it is still basic, it's slow

Correct backup "Picture only", which was saving not the image but the black screen.

Thank you
At first, "MI1" converted only the format "Degas".
When I decided to include other formats, I thought not find as many drawing program on the "ST"
My great regret is that "the Cybernetics" have stopped the development of "SyntheticArt"

I board not find disk "Paintworks". This program seems lost forever.
you have made the conversion of this format?

I did not solve image format, unknown compression.
