After being fantastic at this game when I was in my early teens (on a ZX Spectrum), I come to play this for STOT and find, to my shame, I can't get past the gate!

First score of 7200 - using wireless keyboard where the keys stick is ugh!

Commando_001.png

Second score of 12600 - after I ransacked the flat looking for a USB PS2 style joystick - a lot better, but still really bad :)

Don't like the really bad collision detection - it's almost as bad as my first score :)

24400 Level 2. It's not as easy as the 8 Bit Versions, but It should be possible to do a play through soon. The first fortress for example is very easy.

Second you Xerus. I got 46000 in Level 3 (sorry, to lazy to post the picture, I will also break the record tomorrow).

It's a great speedrun, always run in zigzag until you reach the fortress. At least the fortress of Level 2 and 3 are challenging. I like the game it's fast and you have to very concentrated, at it's a quick fun.

I'll have another go at this tonight. Determined to get past the 'end of first level' bit that I've not managed so far - which is embarrassing :)

Try to rush. Don't stop, always go zigzag left right. In front of the fortress, to to be in front of the door.

I often think of it, but being on the road or unmotivated I don't get a chance.
There is a MACE meeting tomorrow, I might get one or two more entries.

Haha, greetings Andrew ;-) Glad to see you played it, I'm sure Reiny was thrilled. "This is booooring, what's the POINT?".
I couldn't remember if we'd put Pasti on the new PC (required for the atarimania .stx image) but either way I see you figured it out. I'm sorry I couldn't make it!!

Commando seems a bit janky at first, but then it grows on you. Like a fungus.

@MACEers: Did you played Commando in the 8 Bit era?

To all in Level 1: It's so easy, you could do better. Come on!

I certainly didn't, not sure about the others but I doubt it. The most likely is the other guy with an account here - lordboschan... he is into the 8bit side more than the rest of us

@Ragstaff: Ok, I played this game a lot on a C64 back in the very old days. The game has a fantastic soundtrack on the C64 but the gameplay is so easy, that there exist even walk throughts without killing one enemy. But the game inspiered "Rambo" and "Who dares Wins I & II" so at that time there were 3 great soldier shooters around.

195 000 Completed :D
The game restarts indefinitely (apparently) but I didn't finished the game a second time, I stoped my game for an external reason...
My score at the 'real' end (8th LVL) was 150 200.
999999 seems possible with a good focus and a little chance !

This is a faithful adaptation of the arcade game but the colision detection is curious ;)

Crats Xerus, well done

The collision dection is really strange. In Lv 2 for example when the bunkers shot, you simple walk through the bullets.
