Could someone with understanding on German language tell how to activate joysticks or is there a bug in Steem to prevent playing it? I just couldn't get it to work :?

IIRC DGDB from 1987 is hardcoded to poll the joystick from a certain address. Just use TOS 1.0 exclusively and it should work.

There exist 2 versions of DGDB: Color and BW, you are free to use whatever version you like. I grew up with the color version, but I hope to find time to play the BW version as well.

Sad but true, but I will not fire on my dusty 520 STM, so I could only play it on the emulator, but this game is such a great one, it also makes fun on the PC.

In the title simply press F2 to start. No other options are needed.

Double Klick to get 90% power after you collected life energy (the red cross stuff I guess)
Press 1 for player 1 and 2 for player 2 to select with stick to the left to get back 90% energy or with stick right, you controll a bomb.

My first score: 21900

It's not really 8-bit but pure homemade Public Domain stuff of classic quality :)
On modern platforms people would call this "homebrew" but I really dislike this term.

@SSB: Second you, homebrow is really a wrong term. Typicall buss word.

@Xerus: Thanks for participation. So at least the word about DGDB is preaded above the german borders. This game really deserved a wider public attention, don't forget it's from the really early days, but beside the simple graphics it's offer a great level design.

I don't know that DGBD was released in 1986.
So my opinion is too harsh, mea culpa !
For a PD game, it's not bad and the level design seems good indeed.

You could compare all "Gauntlet" like games on the ST (the early Hack & Slay games) and you find out, that some have better graphics, but most of them are to easy.

Hi DGDB Fans ;-)

I tried the game on the atari st emluators hatari (OSX) and steem (Win7) with TOS 1.0 an also the windows version ( http://www.aswsoftware.com/products/dgdb/dgdb.shtml )
in all cases the game starts.
with the emulators i cant move with my usb joystick.
on the "windows version" i can move, but have problems to controll the player with my USB-Joystick during shooting (with fire button on my joystick)
during shooting with my player on the monsters, he will not stand still, he move into the direction of fire.

with config (emu/OS)to do use to play?
somebody use a USB joystick?

one of the greatest game on atari st!
