hatari in falcon mode + IDE drive

Postby atarimonk » Tue Mar 28, 2017 4:38 pm

Hi all,
On hatari 2.0, configured as falcon with TOS 4.04
I am trying to create an hard-drive image used as an IDE drive.
Obviously I need to install an Hard-Drive driver but HDDRIVER 7.x is crashing (stuck at the load of the driver after the probe of the drive)
and AHDI 6.x is refusing to format the drive and or creating partition.

I am not very keen on the GEMDOS solution as it is causing problem for many games.

Any idea?

Thanks,

AtariMonk

See Hatari manual "Hard disk support" section.

I'm not aware of any GEMDOS HD specific problems with any of the Falcon games (I've tested most of them).

Could you be more specific?

Hi,

Thanks for the feedback, well Cécile it will be then!

About GEMDOS, so far I failed to run Ishar2 and Ishar3.

Will try with Cécile tonight.

Thanks

Ishar 2 and 3 are incompatible with hatari (at least they were last time I checked with the manual)

Hi,

Some feedback, HDD works 100% with Cécile.
Ishar 2 and Ishar 3 working 100% with the development version of hatari!

I am extremely happy.

Ishar problem had nothing to do with GEMDOS HD emulation, but Videl one. I added workaround for that in Hatari devel version.

FYI: "Ishar", "Lasers and Hommes", Moonspeeder, "Bound 3" & "Bound 5" demos, Hextracker and several other things froze at start with Falcon emulation because Videl screen address counter register didn't advance (its read & write IO functions were no-ops, this was regression from 2012 commit 22d3c9f30097 where Laurent rewrote most of Videl emulation, but he hadn't had time to finish it yet).

Btw. It's possible that HD Driver hadn't crashed for you. It's probing is for some reason *very* slow with Hatari. Did you wait at least 10 minutes?

Hi,

it turned out that I was trying a freshly recompiled version of hatari and testing Cecile at the same time, thank you for fixing the Videl bug, Ishar series is my favorite.
Love Moonspeeder also.

No I did not wait 10 minutes for HD-Driver.
