"TV" mode draws just every other line when output is doubled in Y-direction, so every other line is left black. Skipping of every other line is done mainly for speed reasons.
This patch draws the doubled lines also in TV-mode, but at half the intensity:
After applying that, the output doesn't look anymore dark.
Note that it's done only in 32-bit output mode, in 16-bit output (--bpp 16) doubled lines are still left black (it's a bit more complicated, and nobody uses 16-bit display anymore unless absolutely needed for performance, e.g. on slower ARM devices, so I don't want to slow it down).
