extra midi port thru steem via usb

Postby charles » Mon Aug 27, 2018 3:34 am

hi im wondering if theres a way..
which I know there is ...
to achieve the standard midi configuration thru steem settings using a midi usb host ..

!!!but in addition !!! have a second usb midi host present as well

reason being Cubase has breakout boxes for the Atari
along with notator etc... which allow an additional 16 midi channels via the printer port, modem port or cartridge port ,,,

provided u use a driver or extra prgm to direct second pairing of channels to new port.

only issue is rewriting steem to permit this addressing .

second midi device present on a additional hardware port emulation ,,,,,

need more details id be happy to expain further

Don't quite follow.

Steem 3.2 has 3 ports all of which can be configured for MIDI. I had a MIDI adapter for the serial port on my real ST, which needed a few lines of code to initialise, but I doubt that this is necessary in Steem. It certainly isn't necessary for the centronics port. (I have used all 3 ports in Steem for MIDI).

yes they are all usable under steem
however when I assign a lan driver or parallel driver within Cubase
it does not execute the data from the steem assigned ports

can u use steem and Cubase and find a method to assign these extra ports..if so please upload your confirguration
maybe I will try to assign steem printer port to a text file and see if by using Cubase (or any other sequencer in steem) if it captures midi data

not midi related....
but at work, we used some usb-serial converter due to new PC do not have serial ports.
And those do not always work for even to control machines.
some how something not good with them.

for the record we don't use steem or any Atari emulators at work
my statement is just about usb-serial converter device in general usage on a pee-c
the consensus from the esteemed technicians and engineers are some signals not convert properly or fluctuates

gotta check the pinouts and stuff, serial can be complicated. Sometimes you need a rollover cable, sometimes you don't, and there are a couple other gotchas. USB serial adapters have been pretty reliable for me, I prefer Keyspan adapters but ones based on ftdi chipsets are good too

yes I see ,, so its not as easy as assigning the parrelle port to a pc com port ,, because of the telemetry
