"Serious" stuff

Postby Cooper » Wed Dec 13, 2006 2:49 pm

Hi,

I have some started (and not started :p) projects, and i wanted to know which of them would interest the atari people the most...

You shouldn't forget that all these projects will be for "oldschool" range of computers (so ST/STE/F030 in ST Mode) and not especially designed for multitasking environnement. It means low resolution (320x200, 16 colors), and why not dma sounds, sndh tunes...

So here is the little list :

- IRC Client with a cool graphical user interface.
- a Total Commander clone (http://www.ghisler.com/index.htm) to manage your files on your ST. (a bit like kobold, but enhanced).
- FTP server to host your files on your ST.
- IRC Bot to admin irc channels.

Let me know what is of interest for you, and don't hesitate to argue why. And it's only a list of ideas, no promises for a release someday.

IRC Client / Bot are working right now, some bugs to fix and enhance the behaviour of the application. Total Commander started. FTP server not started

It's up to you guys !
Thanks !

A Total Commander program would be useful for me the most.

The others I use Windows versions of and after several years of usage, I'm more at home with them.
My main site: http://www.mug-uk.co.uk - slowly digging up the bits from my past (and re-working a few): Atari ST, Sega 8-bit (game hacks) and NDS (Music ripping guide).

I develop a free Word (for Windows) add-in that's available for Word 2007 upwards. It's a fix-it toolbox that will allow power Word users to fix document errors. You can find it at: http://www.mikestoolbox.co.uk

IRC client for sure. Standard ST needs that void filled.

However, will it be IRC only, or will it compatible with MSN or AIM or anything else?

IRC client that uses Stik or Sting can be downloaded from Lonny Pursells page.
FTP server for Stik or Sting can be downloaded from Vassilis Papathaniassous page.
Don't know about a Total Commander clone or an IRC Admin tool that's already existing, but I think the Total Commander is not needed with a decent desktop, so the IRC admin tool would be nice. :)

Before you guys get too excited:

we are talking about applications that will run
* WITHOUT GEM UNDER PLAIN TOS
* FULLSCREEN
* WITHOUT DESK ACCS AND MULTITASKING
* IN ST-LOW

Just to make clear!
The IRC client is almost finished and Cooper did an awesome job on that :)

Go Cooper :)

More funky pictures from Cooper in low res with better colours :)

Although I'd hate to see what size font he'd have to use if he did attempt a Total Commander clone when the other 'finished' projects are released :)

If he uses speedo fonts it would be possible to use them very small, say 6 oints or 8 at most.

Low rez to get 16 colors simultaneously. For the font, i have a 4x8 font (the same as used in the diskmag "Alive" :p).

About MSN, i thought a bit about it. The doc is available, but it seems not that easy to do. But i keep it in mind tho :)

It seems the Total Commander gets the best result so far. Thanks for voting guys, and for others, do it now please :)

My irc client needs Sting, so any hardware Sting-compliant will work with it. I use it with my Ethernec at the moment.

Anaemic : not yet, but this command was supposed to only work for the IRC Bot client, and not for the classical irc client.

Thanks you all for your votes, and time will tell what will be worked :p
