You have to use an edonkey client like emule: http://www.emule-project.net/

They have a very good documentation on their page how to use it.

Or you could try Shareaza http://www.shareaza.com/

It can download Edonkey and Bitorrent files and is also a general p2p program.

When I enter the (full) link above, it opens by bearshare p2p app, but never find the file

What am I doing wrong?

Can anyone host this file on the web? I'm keen to get my grubby little mitts on it! :lol:

I took your advice and installed Shareaza. It resolved the link just fine but could not find any sources for Gamebase.ST.GBST.v2.4.rar

I guess like other people, I'll settle for the 2.4 extra until/if the 3.1d are ever released.

However - is anyone else having problems getting the 2.4 extras from

After nearly a weeks worth of evening/overnight downloads, I've got 2.30 of 3.66gb.

Emule says there are 5 sources available, and I'm in queue position 56,67,214,217,336 respectively.

All day today, I haven't downloading at all, but have been uploading. TCP/UDP ports are open and the "test ports" page says everything is ok.

This is my first experience with emule - is it just a case of there are lots of people trying to download it - and there's a lack of people actually sharing the archive????

The 2.4 extras are back online on the site.
They are provided 'as is'.
I deeply regret that I had to put these old file online again, while Goldrunner said that the new extras will be finally availlable. It is not the first time this happens, and I am sorry that the only person in this world who made the extras can't take the time to upload them on a ftp for the world to download, or at least burn a DVD and send it to someone who will make them availlable.

When I decided to freely host GBST, I did because 1/ the files were really hard to find and 2/ the project was so great ! I thought that with a decent mean of distribution, the makers of GBST will update the project and share it with the world. But this is not the case. It seems that they prefer to hold it for them, without going public. Dudes, you have all the things you need, why keep it for yourself ? Even getting the main 3.1 part (the games!) was painful, and we're waiting for the promised extras for months.

I had to reupload the old 2.4 extras, since it seems it will be the last version that went public.

Well, if I may add something regarding distribution.

I've been offering downloads for the major Amstrad CPC mags, amounting for a few gigas. Yet, I've found that not everyone is on broadband, so basically I've been offering DVDs by mail at cost (2-3 DVDs plus postage, that's about €3-4). Not a terrible lot of people have asked for it, but the interest is there.

Does the Atari croud have an interest in something like that, or are we all on broadband? If not, I could handle it myself...

Really new into this... Was an amiga-fan in the 80s-90s but the excellent gp32 and gp2x brought me a portable atari ST.

The work that you people put into gamebase is excellent because a lot of old manuals are included.
I started buying old games on ebay just for the manuals. It is a shame that the latest extras are hard to reach us. I am really looking for a scanned carrier command manual, I bought the game but the manual was missing.

Hopefully the 3.1 extras are still coming our way...

Ideally the GamebaseST project needs opening up so we aren't all relying on one person to create and distribute the finished product. Too many projects can go into a terminal coma due to someone simply losing interest or motivation for a while.

Fixed releases are ok but really this kind of a project would work best on a much more fluid and interactive basis. Perhaps a website where you can tick box which categories you wish to download pasti images, cracked games, hard drive games, extras etc and then only download those. Again, selecting either the whole category or maybe some clever way of downloading only new or updated files that the downloader doesn't have.

Obviously also an easy way to upload images and extras and perhaps a community based verification system for submissions. All new submissions could be available for download individually, and once sufficient people had green lighted the submission it would become automatically part of the correct download category.

I realise this is quite a departure from the current system and would be a huge project in itself, but maybe it's the way of the future?

Thanks megar! The 2.4 Extras are much better that the 1.2 Extras I had.

And guys, don't ride Goldrunner too much. He has done an outstanding job just getting ver 2.4 out. 3.1 is at least useable without the extras and was a monumental effort on his part. If he is crawling to the finish line at the end of a marathon, at least he has not dropped out. I am sure he will get around to it once he resolves whatever issue it is he is currently dealing with.

Well said, and he seems to be crawling alone despite his army of GBST proud members....
GBST is his project, we should be happy with what we have in my opinion...

http://www.dmoz.org/Computers/Usenet/Public_News_Servers/. A list of free news servers however you won't find any free binary servers. The free ones tend to be text only because of the bandwidth costs.

Yup, there really is no such thing as a "free meal" is there..
You can use P2P networks but the energy required to run your 1kW quad processor water cooled PC for a week just to get a few gigs would probably cost more than the £2.50 per week unlimited service with newshosting.com... :ehum:

Then you may want to leave the PC on for a month or so to share your files with other poor underprivileged P2P peasants

And then the postage of a DVD would cost about the same again.

Having said that, if someone has a server with unlimited bandwidth then that would make it "free" after all
