alt.binaries.emulators.atari FLOOD of ST Games!

Postby Dew-It » Mon Oct 23, 2006 12:32 am

There is a flood of ST games in the alt.binaries.emulators.atari. I use newsleecher and have leeched everything for the ST there. With a High Speed cable modem you can get them in no time at all.

Cool, cheers for the heads up.

They are PASTI images so you need pasti.dll in your STeem (or Saint) folder and then have to enable it in the disk manager for it to recognise STX files.

I was wondering what that STX format was. Is there a way to extract the files with this PASTI.DLL. What pain to go through all that. Oh well such is life.

Currently the only way is under emulation. Insert the Pasti image after you get the desktop (the easier way is by enabling virtual hard disk). Then, if the image has files (not all do), you can copy them to the hard disk or to an ST/MSA image.

But note that the files won't be very useful. Most of the Pasti images are taken from copy protected software. The files wouldn't work unless you crack/hack/patch them.

I use outlook express for my news, you just add in your ISP's news server address like you would with an email account. Some people use google groups. There are many programs to leech newsgroups, I gave up as my ISP's news server is rather slow.

Any possibilty to copy the files to a more public place?

My provider hasn't alt.binaries.emulators.atari in the "news"... but it has alt.binaries.emulators.amiga! The war isn't over yet...
