Looking for game written by Zero-5 programmer....

Postby ggn » Wed Feb 01, 2006 6:24 pm

Hi all,

Well, the subject says all.

Andrew Gisby, the coder of Zero-5 on STE/Falcon released a game as a freelancer. I remember playing a demo of it, but:

- I can't remember its name
- I don't remember where I got it from.

The game itself had you controlling an arrow-like spaceship that rotated around in a grid (no scrolling), and killing all sorts of bad guys (mostly in the form balls).

It had 4-channel replay for sfx in-game, and it contained some wicked, llamatron like sfx.

The menu system and in-between levels interface sort of reminded Zero-5 (although I haven't played Zero-5 too much)

So, anyone remember any game that matches this description?

TIA

George

Hmmm....

I think you are far off the target :)

Stardust was Aggression's port of the Amiga version! Nothing to do even with caspian software (in which zero-5 was released :))

Boot up the game and see the credits:

Code:
Wiztom Kivela
Rene Ciwioya

Any other suggestion?

George
(thanks anyway, this release of stardust has a nice intro :))

Humm...

After a look on google for

Andrew Gisby,

I just find him for the support of this game.

I don't remind how could be Utopos also :?:

Will seek by the way of Zero 5

Well, nope, this game is for the Falcon :)

I didn't specify before, but iirc it was for st/e.

Thanks for mentioning this game though , as I got a very nice piece of trivia. Mainly this: http://www.bistudio.com/inside/p_programmers.html

(i.e. the Operation Flashpoint lead programmer coded on Ataris. It all fits ;))

Just remembered another thing: It was on a magazine's cover disk. Is there any site (or list) with the contents of atari st coverdisks?

Zogging Hell is about the only useful one .. plus I think exxos' STOS site has almost all the ST Doormat Cover disks.

And as an aside .. how dodgy do those coders look!
My main site: http://www.mug-uk.co.uk - slowly digging up the bits from my past (and re-working a few): Atari ST, Sega 8-bit (game hacks) and NDS (Music ripping guide).

I only found it because I'd played it recently and recognised the game through your description.

However, I've been looking for the full version as well and have had no luck...

Andrew Gisby has (allegedly) posted some comments about Zero-5 here:

http://www.atari.st/view.php?id=2210

His e-mail was there, so I sent him a mail kindly asking him to donate the game to us :)

So I guess I got lucky? ;)

Hi George

Zero-5 was the last complete STe/Falcon game I wrote. I used to be very good at starting games and not finishing them(!)

It was a very hard year (working in the day, writing the game at night) - Was kind-a-like a pinnicle for me in respect to learning STe internals and squeezing what performance I could out of the thing. I dread to think the number of assember code lines ... Bound to be 100s of 1000s. Anyway, after the publication of Zero-5, very poor sales and the arrival of my first child ... It was time to call it day on the ST game writing front.

I have a chest full of source disks and software in the loft. Alas, my Falcon030 hd has given up the ghost. Rather depressing as I no longer have a running version Zero-5. Thus ... I can't easily get software to you.

If you can help me out and point in the right direction of a decent PC based ST emulator, rom images etc, I might be able to sort something out - No promises, the disks in the chest (1000's of em!) are well over 10 years old now.

d-Rez was shareware at the time (I think I did a demo program as well). Once again, I'll send d-Rez stuff to you if I can access files etc from my PC with suitable emulator. I've tried some emulators in the past and not had much luck.

I work in IT senior management now. I still do a little game development on the side (hobby thing). Mainly PC based (Directx etc). Co-incidentally, I used the "d-Rez" name for a recent DirectX game I almost finished(!). Brandygames is in recess at the moment :o)

I invited him to join the forum, plus gave him a few hints on emulation :). Awaiting for 2nd reply now...

If he doesn't have the time to covert the disks into images, maybe he'd be willing to post (mail) the D-REZ disks...

And the new 'D-REZ' game looks pretty dope. For a PC game.

Necrobump! I've been playing the demo version lately. Anyone by any chance has the full version?
