Scam user warning

Postby mpattonm » Fri Oct 06, 2017 11:06 am

As many of you know, I have sold tens of my ST2VGA adaptors to other fellow atarians of this forum. And if you are one of them, you also happen to know that I have not requested upfront payment from you, and only asked for money once I have shipped out your order. Some of you wondered why. Well, first of all, I have to admit that it was easirer for me to handle high demand like this without bearing too much pressure. But it was a bit of an experiment as well, I kinda wanted to be assured that people here are nice, trustworthy and plesure to deal with. Basically, that there is still a humanity left even in todays world.
And it all worked out well! That is till now. You know, there is always one bad apple.
I am not complaining, but I believe honest people here should be warned, so you do not make a same mistake dealing with this person, like I did.
Long story short, I have never seen payment from this user afer I shipped out and he did not respond to my two reminders (PM + email) that I sent since Sept 4th, when I shipped out his order, either. Never got a word of complain from him that he did not receive a package. Just a silence and ignoration.
Yesterday, when I already sent (final) WTF/men-up message, I finally (and only then) heard from him back with I should appologise him for trying to ask for his money.
Well, this could be the first case of undelivered package that ever happened to me. Sure. It can easily be, that his package is still on a way to Argentina somewhere and eventually will arrive safe. But what troubles me most is his immature and hostile behavior. I do not regret money lost, its close to nothing. But it hurts to realize that this guy easily uses your good will.
That user nickname is Hellraiser, this is his real name:
Ronny De Veirman, Av. Castañares 4555, Ed.10 C Piso 9 Dpto.H, 1439 Capital Federal, Argentina
You have been warned.

I have also been conned by a person in Argentina. It was an Atari Falcon and, as you can imagine, a lot of money, time and aggreviation was lost. I would not send anything to Argentina or Brazil again due to this and the issues I had with customs. Not worth the bother. :/

There was also another guy called Mark Zipp who was plane weird and was obviously trying to groom me for money now looking at it. It is a shame these bad apples are present but there we go, there is always a wise guy!

There was also another guy purporting to be getting some competition pro joystick clones made in China... again asking for funding. I was initially interested but ultimately said NO as I had a bad feeling and again he came across as very odd. When I did say no, he turned even stranger and started to throw abuse. I blocked him, together with the other strange people.

I live at Argentina. I can't comment on this specific case, it wouldn't be fair, but ...

We do have an unreliable mailing service, and we do also have a very problematic customs systems. HOWEVER, this is no excuse for not paying and certainly not for bad manners. On the contrary ...

Exactly because I am aware of the complications when receiving packages from overseas, I will almost always ask for trackable shipping in the first place. If the shipping has tracking then it is very unlikely that it will get lost. It might take quite some time at the customs in the worst case, but you know it's there.

And if it's not possible to use tracking, or not worth, then I might take chances by assuming the risk myself. If it doesn't arrive in this case, then I know it is (probably) not the buyer's fault. I won't do this with something like a Falcon, of course!, but only for something very cheap that is reasonable to take the risk.

So please don't assume that all buyers from my country have bad behavior.

I appreciate this honest feedback. My experience of Argentinian sale....

Guy asks me to send him a Falcon.
He pays the money.
I arrange a courier.
Falcon arrives in Argentina.
Guy says customs refuse to let the computer into the country as it is "dangerous".
Then I hear the guy refuses to drive and pick it up from customs.
Courier sends back Falcon to me.
This process took 2-3 months.
I paid for the courier to and from Argentina.
All I get are lies and grief from buyer.

Suspect this was more down to the buyer and a culmination of customs not being professional. At the end of the day, an expensive lesson :(

I agree - not everyone is the same but you can understand from my experience why I wouldn't send a computer to Argentina anymore.
