WANTED: Falcon 030 (wishful thinking?)

Postby phil4 » Thu Jul 08, 2010 8:49 pm

Hi, yes, new to this forum, so firstly, hello all!

Have had atari's since was young, and as per sig have a couple still. While I mostly use PCs, mainly because of my day job, it's nice to get a bit of nostalgia. Emulators help, but the real deal is better.

On that basis, I never quite had the money when I was younger to get a Falcon... and now I'd really like to one.

I notice though that they're quite expensive, and also seem to come up so very rarely.

Wondered if you could give me the lowdown on expected prices, where to go find and how often they come up.

Help really appreciated.

Hunt on ebay, they are rare and go for $400-500 usd. Some are for more or less. I have got one on the table, when I fix it it will go for sale but it will be expensive because it gets most of chips new and will be moded. It is nice piece of equipment but u must be a real freak like me to pay $1000 for 2 boxes and another $1000 for modes and parts. Expensive love but still cheaper than a real woman ;)
In hell we will meet again...

Why a Falcon, wanna program or Midi / music ? At the moment they are really rare on Ebay which
pushes the price even further esp. if there are nice usefull options or extra's added...

(Finally the 300 post l ;) )

There have been quite a lot of Falcon 030 machines on Ebay in the past year, so you should find one fairly soon with a bit of luck. However even a stock model with 4MB RAM and a small hard drive will cost £200 upwards, probably nearer £300. I paid £290 and £310 approx for my two 4MB and 14MB models but one came with a rare Matrix ScreenEYE video capture board and the other with Steinberg FA-8 and FDI audio expansion hardware. Recently those two Steinberg interfaces sold collectively for more than £100 on their own! Soon after receiving my Falcons, I sold a few bits and pieces and that helped to reduce the price of the Falcons for me, so I would look out for Falcons bundled with lots of added extras.

Heya, oh real simple... started out my early days with 520 & 1040 STFM's, finally in '91 got me a MegaSTE, though oddly with TOS 2.05, so can only think it was quite an early machine. Used that as my main machine until 1998. Going off to some of the yearly shows at Birmingham motorbike museum I was always envious of the Falcon's, but could never quite afford one. Now I've got a few more quid (no, not filthy rich, but enough for a falcon), would like to achieve the ambition. I still have the 1040, and MegaSTE, so this would sit alongside them, and allow me to properly try the Falcon bits I only ever saw others doing.

Too much info I guess :)

Thanks for the info, though paying quite a lot, think I might have secured one through a private sale, which in my mind is awesome. I'm not looking for specific extras, just want a capable unbroken one, and the extras can then justify the price.

You just got to be patient and wait. I waited a long time but eventually I managed to get two for well under £200 the pair. Cleaned up, new hard drives, 14Mbyte RAM, FPU, new clock chips they will have cost well under £150 each.
