Polarity shift on forum..

Postby Grunaki » Tue Aug 07, 2012 7:07 am

I've noticed that the forum seems a lot more active these days (which is great! :D ) but the focus seems to have shifted away from mainly ST gaming and general chat to hard-core techie stuff.

I find the techie things fairly interesting, but I'm not that heavily invested in electronics projects in my spare time, so if folks could find the time to also shoot the s**t about ST Gaming and life in general in the Chat & Gaming forums, that would be most appreciated! ;)

Surely this is to be expected.

I think that most gamers will have moved on to newer, more capable platforms, leaving just the techie and / or retro types on the forum.
Too many retro computers here: 1040STfm, Mega4, Ultrasatanx2 , Amiga A500, A500+ and A1200, Acorn Atom x2, BBC Micro, Electron, Spectrum 48k x2, +48, +128k, QL, Oric Atmos, ZX81, Memotech MTX512, Amstrad 6128 x2..

I think that a lot of the gamers have moved over to Atari-Age and other such game oriented forums leaving the techies here and over at the Dbug and DHS forums.

Do your own part and contribute to the Games section. :) You could have paritcipated in STOT while it was still up and running......

Otoh I don't think there was that much move away to other forums. I monitor AA too and there is a lot less talk about Atari ST gaming than here in comparison.
Same goes for DHS and atari.org, and the D-Bug forum is also rather silent.

Last weekend I showed some games (a random selection running on hatari on my laptop with a USB competition pro) to my friend's 8-year-old son...

Joystick: "What's a joystick?"

Star Wars: being a big Star Wars fan, he liked the concept, but it was difficult to control. I should have brought a real mouse along.

Spidertronic: a bit weird, difficult to control - he couldn't get the concept of mapping the vertical and horizontal controls to diagonal movement.

Terramex: Intrigued, had trouble timing fire button + movement, bored pretty quickly.

Turrican 2: he liked this one, especially all the different weapons.

Lethal Xcess: we enjoyed this as well, until hatari went nuts with the display at the first level boss.

Was an interesting time, we might do something similar again but I'll set it up a little better next time.

Yeah, I enjoy the techie stuff too. :D
Always like adding stuff to my Atari to make it go faster and better.... that's where the hardware comes in, but I can't make my own hardware.
The eyes are getting bad and it's tough to do soldering now. :(
I also enjoy trying out new software and the new OS features....
I need to look for my Atari joystick... if it's still working...
