Ello.
Im Martin i have only just got an atari it is a 520st upgraded to 1mb, as of yet i have no software at all for it. I am interested in putting it to as much use as possible including word processing and dtp, and fingers crossed a tiny bit of surfing. (Fingers crossed)
My other main interest is classic cars and i am currently restoring an austin maxi.
I cannot upload pictures yet as all my web access is by wap/gprs

Welcome aboard

For surfing with an ST you will need at least 4Mb and a harddisk.
1Mb might be sufficient for FTP and Email but certainly not for CAB as the TCP stack takes too much memory to let CAB function properly.

On a whim a week ago I posted a wanted message on freecycle for an Atari ST computer and got a reply from an awsome dude named Peter who gave me his dusty old Atari 520ST^M w/ floppy drive, monochrome monitor, and software. So I finally have a reason to use my account here on the forums.

My name is Matt, I turned 25 on August 12th, and I'm horribly obsessed with all things classic video gameing and computers... or at least that's what my family would say i fyou asked them about it. I just call it a "hobby"..... It has oddly leaked into music as I've not only got classic computers and video games, but I've got movies on both CED and LaserDisk as well as an automatic turn table and a collection of records.

I use Mac OS X and my current game systems are the Nintendo DS and Wii.

Probably my most beefed up comptuer is my Apple IIgs, it's got SCSI 350MB hard drive and CD ROM, 8MB of RAM, 6 floppy drives, ethernet, a modem, Apple ImageWriter II, and oh... a Transwarp GS accelerator... which will... when it gets back late next week from Reactive Micro... be running at 18.75Mhz(stock IIgs runs at 2.5Mhz)... 10.75Mhz faster than when I sent it in just over a week ago.

I look forward to seeing what I can do with my new to me Atari ST.

Originally got a 520STFM for my 18th birthday and enjoyed the games, but soon decieded to have a bash with graphics and coding.
As in my other post, I wrote a game in 68000 which looks like its sadly lost forever, BUT!!! i'm having a go again and rewriting a new version which hopefully will be better than the original.

Sadly in a moment of madness sold my ST which had since been upgraded to 1meg and had a 20 meg hard drive for it too! (even sprayed the ST to graphite grey and looked COOL!) when I moved to Hong Kong.

Luckily, just recently got given a 4 meg STFM from the father in law, so that really boosted my interest again in the ST scene.

Currently out of work, but have done allsorts over the years, web design, worked in a games company doing some graphics for MAC games (sorry! lol) and also a fair bit of 3D work for various places including CGI work for an S4C program called Ar@chnid in 2000 which was cool as parts of my work were used in the title sequences and also a still was used on the huge advertising posters that scatter towns etc.

So inbetween finding a job (oh such fun!) and family stuff, im loving getting back into the coding on the ST again.

My name is Tobias and I live in q quite small town in Sweden. I work with technical illustrations and 3D animations. My first computer was a SVI 728 MSX, then an MSX 2. After that I moved over to ATARI and bought myself an 520STFM, 1040STFM, 1040STE, Atari Falcon. I have been involved in two demo/software projects called TCC (The Crap Crew) Believe me we were really crappy and Slime soft. We released a textbased andventure, some shootemups and a point and click adv. plus some demo screens and a megademo, all done in STOS and Hisoft basic2. I mostly made Graphix but also coded basic and some simple asm. I also go under the name Animator75 (I was born in 1975) And ACC:Xess. I have recently released a remix cd with ST music, you can listen to it at http://www.c64audio.com, the cd is called "Behind the Square".. Well, ehum.. It's function keys and some keys on the neck send midi messages, at this moment there is trashed M-audio midi keyboard built into it. We are trying to encode the ST keyboard and using a PIC cpu to transform the keycodes into midi messages, so that the keyboard will work as in a tracker program. But getting some data from the keyboard and encoding it turned out to be harder than we thought.. At first we had a busted keyboard, and for 3 days we had our eyes glued at the oscilloscope wondering why nothing happened, Now I have a new keyboard and we will try again.

A true beauty huh ? As I am an Amiga guy, I don't know the peculiarities of this system very well so I'll have lots of questions. Please bear with me and don't get pissed if I talk about Amiga too much
