Please help me remember/ID this game

Postby 6BQ5 » Mon Jan 21, 2019 4:49 am

This is going to be hard for me to describe ... and it will probably sound like a hundred games out there. Here goes.

The player is a warrior of some sort. He moves in through the world one screen at a time. His movements are predefined in a grid of some sort.

The warrior is controlled through the joystick.

The warrior shoots arrows. I can't remember the enemies.

The graphics were really simple. I don't remember any soundtracks or fancy sound effects. It ran in color.

I downloaded the game from a BBS ... so, it was probably shareware if not public domain.

I wish I can remember more details.

Any ideas or possible titles? I've been scanning through Atari Mania hoping I would bump into it.

Does it played like Gauntlet ? Or more like a Rogue game ?
Maybe it's ST Rogue ? https://www.mobygames.com/game/atari-st/rogue (I think there was a free version, after this commercial release)

Thanks for the reply!

It’s neither ST Rogue or Gauntlet. The background was white, not black.

The concept is very similar though.

I think I found it ... or something that’s really, really super close! The game is called Megamaze and it was written by Eric B. Lindros.

I stumbled upon it while exploring one of the Crawly Crypt CDs.

After my character dies the program exits and my STe’s mouse input seemingly freezes. I have to reboot my machine. Maybe one of the NetUSBee drivers is conflicting with it?

Actually sounds like the Temple of Apshai Trilogy.

The game I'm remembering is definitely Megamaze. Last night I stumbled on the game that Megamaze copied from. The game is called Dandy and was released in 1983 or so for the 8-bit systems. I spent a little time Googling Dandy and its place in history. The Wikipedia article is an interesting read!
