Dungeon Master Remake

Postby addicted2mame » Wed May 16, 2012 5:09 pm

Hi,

for all of you who spent hours with dungeon master maybe this is good news.

"Legend Of Grimrock"

It´s out for a month and really worth the 15 bucks.

Check out youtube for player´s videos to get an impression. The programmers kept the original dungeon master spirit but added some nice extras.

Dungeon Master Remake

Postby mrdalliard » Wed May 16, 2012 9:54 pm

I have to confess that I'm already playing it. I pre-ordered it for just 7-ish quid and it's probably the best game I've played in ages - really true to the original, but still graphically wonderful.

Consider that an endorsement - I'm on level 9 at the moment. :)

But can it really compete with the likes of SkyRim?

Hey, as long as they keep making lame endings to games like Mass Effect 3, I'll
happily continue playing my old Atari games... :)

PS Yes, I know there's an adjustment to ME3, and it only took a world-wide
outpouring from the discontented fans to get it, so meh... :)

It is great - pays a great deal of homage to DM. I know, I'm sounding like a broken record now.... but it was a cheap purchase. The price of this was about a third of what I paid for Chaos Strikes Back all those years ago!

I'm running it on my Mac under Wine and it works a treat. The extras they've brought to the game really make the difference. Loads of extra sorts of puzzles and buttons. The monsters look good and the sounds are great. Lots of atmospheric sounds of scuttling and stuff to get your nerves going when monsters are nearby... :)

someone completed this game in 8 hours in the early days after it came out (no solution yet at this time) .. insane !
it took me about 24h i think, but it also because i bumped into every walls for hidden rooms and

S P O I L E R
there are no fake walls :?

another thing is that you cannot use doors to kill monsters, but otherwise the game's very good and well worth the price, very refreshing overall

can you practice ninja skill (throwing items) by walking and nonstop throwing and picking up item? :) I remember my brother use this technique to skill up ninja in Dungeon Master.

it would be cool to replace sample in Legends of Grimrock with original Dungeon Master samples!! (like hiting monster, or hiting wall "ouch"...) has anyone any idea how this could be done? there is only one file with 600MB but when you install 1.1.4 patch you will see that 600MB file is recompiled...

I wouldn't describe Legend of Grimrock as Dungeon Master 'remake', but it is certainly a similarly styled game. And in my opinion, LoG is an excellent game.

I'm looking forward to LoG2 (which is currently in development), and I'm still enjoying playing the master quest expansion pack and other level packs.
