last game i wrote for 1040 STE, 10 years ago !

Postby tobe » Sat Jan 24, 2004 10:23 am

Hi everybody !
New server, nice, just need to register again :?

Here is Roger, the last game i wrote for atari, 10 years ago.
You will find some doc on the floppy.
This game just work fine with steem 2.61, and of course on a real STE 1meg !
I've just change the license from shareware to freeware, so just press space in intro screen to start playing !

I still have the gfa sources (who want some ?), but lost the level editor.

Have fun ! Bye !

Roger,

Did you created this game based on the Sonic the Hedgehog platform gmaes? The Bonus sub games? Or wasn't Sonic released back then?

I have to admit, I played it for a few minutes here, and this game absolutely rocks! Why didn't I know it back then?

People, check this out, it looks really pro for a shareware game! The music is great, the graphics are great and the gameplay is awesome! The first pinbal-platform game for the STe!!!!

Thanks for sharing this, I will look into it in more detail soon!

Cheers,
Maarten

Really neat indeed.
But I have a problem when running it. I can't get beyond the hiscore table. The game plays ok and then the hiscore table appears. Music is still playing but I can't seem to restart a game or get back to the title sequence.
I'm using STEEM 2.6 and a german TOS 2.06.

thanks everybody !

punkrulesok :
yes, GFA 8) !
the scrolling is draw by the blitter (using some extended features like dithering memory and hot-restart), just take a look at the fadein/fadeout effects !
i don't remember using hardware scrolling in roger, maybe only for clipping purposes or dual-system scrolling (block-based with blitter softened by hardware scrolling in the range 0->block-size).

silver surfer :
thanks ! please enjoy it !

maarten martens:
the original idea came from the bonus level from cool spot (great game, try if you don't know !) i used to play with a friend on his megadrive (or mastersystem ?) only for this bonus levels ! but they were too short so i decided to make a game from this !
the music is great, i've stolen this from sidsound designer...
please remember the game isn't anymore shareware, it's now freeware and the code source will follow !
my avatar (oversoul) have been painted by alex grey, please take a look at :

dma:
dma ? sector one ? thanks to you !

simonsunnyboy:
try first to put your name in the table
then try with UK TOS 1.62 (the one inside my STE rom) the rainbow tos !!!

bye !

Great to see this game released, for the last few years whenever I change anything with blitter or STE sound I always check to make sure it works properly, and then end up playing for a few hours because it is such a cool game! :D

Yeeeeeea! Tobe, that's a class game & I'm just sad I've never heard about it before today.

It's well polished, presentation is top class. I'll be quick now as I have to go back & play... and I've spent quite some time with cool spot on the sms but here's something juST as fun :o)

OK, I want to see more of your STuff... surely there's more somewhere on your old machine...? ;)

thanks again for releasing this!

Wow, this game is soooo nice!! Well polished, nice SFX, nice graphics (although I was never into cutsey games...), what can I say? Better include it on some menu! :D

Thanks, man!

Your game is better than many commercial releases of that time (anyone remembers Top Banana? )

Hi !

Now i understand it was an error to hide roger and leave Atari scene !

History:
I've found back one floppy of roger 2 years ago in my pc ones, then found my STE (wasn't runnig for 8 years !) and tried some emulators from the web. Steem was the only one who emulate STE hardware, but i have a few problems with sound emulation until last versions.
So i brought my STE to my workplace, to show everybody some cool games. Last day i decided (after a long debug session) to play roger, and then discover i have brought the TV cable back to home...
Then i remember Steem and downloaded the latest version, and discover the perfect, PERFECT STE EMULATION !!!
While browsing links inside the General Infos section, i found this forum, and think it may be a good idea to post roger, nothing to loose !

It was a good idea...

Now i will try to find other floppys, but i must travel to my parent's home (physically  ), i hope i can find some of my GFA demos too !

simmonsunnyboy:
i will take a look at paradize, download some releases, but since 1994 i forgot a lot of stuffs and i am really busy about pc game coding  ...

Bye !
step 1: introduce bug, step 2: fix bug, step 3: goto step 1.

If they are of the same quality as Roger, it should be very interesting...

Hi

Does anybody have the GFA Compiler ? So I can use the trainer version for D-Bug?

Also I need the code changing *slightly* if possible.... any proficient GFA coders out there ?

Shw
