For example I know by memory these games have become movies:

Alien Vs Predator - Okay
Dead or Alive - Okay
Double Dragon - Crap
Doom - Okay
Far Cry - Not watched
Max Payne - Okay
Mortal Kombat - Okay
Postal - Crap
Resident Evil - ok
Silent hill - Ok
Street Fighter - Mega Crap
Super Mario Brothers - Not Watched

Question though... were any of those films good? (Except Resident Evil, that was pretty fun... and Tomb Raider wasn't awful) :D

Here are several others: Wing Commander, House of the dead, Alone in the dark, Hitman.

And yes, they all suck.

Silent Hill was ok ... you could even say it was a good movie: nice atmosphere, felt quite unique. :-)

Yeah, I enjoyed Silent Hill as well. I was actually too scared to play the PSX/PS2 games (I have SH2 and.. 3 and some Resident Evil sequel I think, only played once, because the tension got to me :P )

I agree with Marcer that Street Fighter was an awful film... I love SF2, and like Jean-Claude Van Damme... but could not finish the film - TWICE.

Super Mario Brothers is a sack of wank - best avoided.

Also - anything directed by Uwe Boll is also best left alone..

(House of the Dead, Bloodrayne, etc.)

Unless you were as I was, smitten with Samantha Mathis. It was still crap though!

Agreed. If the man has any talent, it's well hidden.

No way... MGS? Devil May Cry?? Metroid??? PACMAN? Yellow_Colorz_PDT_29
I'd like to see MGS and Metroid done well... but can't see a story in the rest (Tekken? WTF?). Prince of Persia and the Onimusha series are pretty good games, at least.

I actually thought Tomb Raider was pretty good but then maybe I'm being swayed by my lust for Angelina. Doom really could and should have been excellent but was just wrong in so many ways it hurt. As for Postal, I thought it was absolutely hilarious! Well worth a watch :)

Weren't there two Street Fighter 2 games released roughly at the same time?

I know there's the one with that prat from brussels and Kylie, but wasn't there one released in Japan as well which is supposed
to be way, way better?
So let it be written, So let it be done. I'm sent here by the chosen one.

Maybe you mean SSF2 Turbo and SF2 the Movie (the Game...), which were released within a year or so of each other?

For myself, I'll second

Dungeon Master The Movie
SpaceQuest

and add:

Ultima - story from 3, 4, or 5!

for games I'd love to see (done well) as movies. :)

There is a Street Fighter II Manga movie that poops on the live action film from quite a height. It's actually very enjoyable, especially after a few beers.

Films based on games really have had a bad time of it. Comes to something when Tomb Raider is actually a finer example in a given genre. I weep at the thought of a Bioshock movie: that flawless, beautiful and engaging world of Rapture helpless in the merciless hands of a Hollywood hack.

There is a film in pre-production more bizarre than Pac-man: Joust The Movie, anyone?

Oh, I'd have to add "The Bards Tale" as well - what an epic the world of Skara Brae
could make!

To do it justice though, the story from the clue book would *have* to be included
up front, first. HAVE to. :)
