Am very impressed from the graphics, was always surprised there wasn't more manic miner type games on the ST.

John, I assume you know about the PC utilities that can convert ST Disks to image files (to use with STeem etc.)?
wiki/index.php/Disk-Imagers

This might be easier than copying from Hard Drive->PC DIsk->dragging files etc.

Anyway, I look forward to playing the game.

Seems to be some broken links there like Ppera and X3perimental sites for example. Anyway, excellent work, hopefully those games can be recovered :)

Just so people know that the data is in good hands, I'm Jamie's friend and I'll be transferring the contents of their floppy disks to the PC. My STE is all set up for the transfer and waiting for the postman... :)

Heh - don't worry, I'm in almost daily MSN contact with Jamie at the moment, so this won't end up forgotten like Snow Bros!

I'm really excited by this! Your screens look awesome, Mr Leather! I can't wait to play these. I was a big fan of Manic Miner and Jet Set Willy, and I too missed similar games being released for the ST (with the exception of Chubby Gristle 8) ). I used to play Danger UXB on the Acorn Electron, so I look forward to BOOM! too.

Jamie mentioned he had a friend who could transfer these earlier in the week.

I should see Jamie Sunday night for a drink or two because it is his birthday. We'll probably arrange to meet up at mine sometime Monday. If we managed to get the floppy drive up and running using makeshift elastic band then I am able to transfer to floppy which I'll then be passing the disk onto Jamie which I believe will end up with you.

About Jet set willy, the lost world was originally meant to double up and do both games. You set the game mode to standard (manic miner) or adventure (Jet set willy). However because it caused more problems then it was worth I've disabled the toggling of the game mode. I've just looked at the source code and I've commented out about 500 lines which would turn it into minic miner/Jet set willy mode. I'm going to leave them commented out because its been commented so long ago that I fear there may be some undesirable side effects.

I'll be including the source code anyway so someone may come along uncomment these, compile it and fix anything accordingly.

That's me :)

This story about rubber bands is a bit worrying though... Might be worth buying another ST via fleabay for £20 instead or replacing the drive. I'm happy to donate some money towards this good cause :)

Muguk has kindly donated his spare machine which I will arrange to pick up if I cannot get my drive working. Worth a try to speed things up at my end.

As the source is realeased also maybe an updated version with music can be made, perhaps in the 1988 style chipmusic :)
So it will be just as it would if it had got published in 1988.

The rubber band trick is working!

But I am not able to read any of my old floppies at the moment. I have manage to format one disk after several attempts but I have not been able to copy anything onto it.

Muguk I'll PM you one day next year to arrange to pick that ST.

Oh mate - please be careful with these disks!!! I can only hope that you performed the initial tests with non-important disks (and not Jamie's ones) - even reading disks with write protect on in a dodgy drive can wreck them!

No probs .. in most nights or if you can get to Stockport around a lunchtime, you could pick it up from me @ my work? I'm just off Junction 2 of the M60 - you can't miss it as there's a bloody great glass pyramid-shaped building nearby :)

I just put some screenies up from some old ST games I did (before Nitro) on my blog:

Nothing to download yet, still in the process of sorting that out.

Hey! Stop pimping your unreleased game in my thread!

Update: I haven't forgotten about these games and it will be released eventually but unsure as to when. I was kind of hoping to turn up to byte-back and arange to do the transfer of the data there but lack of ££ meant it wasn't so.

Really great news about all those unreleased games. :)

Jamie : Congrats about Nitro btw, one of my favorites multiplayers racing games.
I believe it has been the inspiration for CodeMaster's Micromachines multiplayers gameplay.
