Looking for help of a game connoisseur

Postby 8Void » Thu Jan 17, 2019 9:48 pm

Hello, I'm wondering if I can get some help to identify a couple of atari games that I haven't been able to find yet. I've made really bad sketches of what I can recollect from my memory.

The first game featured some guy or kid that would throw rocks or something at some birds that would come walking on the branches on the threes, you would lose a life or something when you would get hit by their poo:

The other game featured some chef (maybe) that would use a cast with what looked like a hipopotamus as a bait for creatures that would be underneath, I don't remember if the hipopotamus could shoot something at them, or how you would stop them from climbing up, but these, let's say reptiles, would climb up and then kill you (or your hipopotamus, I can't really recall well):

Further background information on how I played these games: I'm not sure if what I owned was an atari or a clone of it, because the only cartridge that I owned then was a single cartridge with many games in it, including games like mouse trap, M*A*S*H and others. I've tried to find them in the past looking at sites with a good amount of thumbnails for most of the atari games, and other different sites with no luck, hopefully someone with good memory can recognize any of these games and give me a name, I would just like to play them again, and the Hippo one had a funny melody when you would respawn, thanks in advance.

This sounds a lot like Pooyan. But that wasn't available on the ST, only on 8bit systems.

I love the sketches! :) But I don't think these are ST games; the small hint for me was 'one of several games on a cartridge, the ST was disk-based (easy mistake - a friend at work said they had an ST, followed by "You had to load games from tape, didn't you?" - They didn't see my fist until it was too late).

They maybe VCS games or Atari XE? In which case kolli might be right with the second pooyan as a quick search reveals that was on both.

As I like a challenge, and as the first game sounds like fun I'll have a look this evening as I've nothing better to do.

Right, I'm up to 'M' on the Atari 800 games on atarimania and nothing like that yet. If I get some time I'll carry on tomorrow.

On the plus side for me I've seen a load of Atari 8 bit games I want to give a go so I'll add some onto my retropie, er, pi.

One of it looks like Pooyan... which indeed is -not- an ST game:

Yes one of the games is Pooyan, thank you all for the help. This one was on the 2600 I believe, and it looked like this:

The other game is still evading me, as some people thought I was describing the game called Forest, but that is not the game. I'd like to make a better sketch of it but that was all to it, a tree with birds walking on the branches and some humanoid shape shooting at them from underneath, may been an unlicensed game, I don't know because no body seems to know about it.

I actually gave it another go on a different site's database and I was finally able to find it. The game is called Nuts for the 2600 and it actually features a squirrel that's trying to prevent weasels from stealing his nuts hidden in the trees. Funny thing is that in my memory there was an extra sound effect that is not present in the game, but maybe I'm misplacing it in my memory from a different game since I don't think there are different versions of this game or something. Thank you all for your help finally found both :).

I'll stop looking through Atari 800 games then. Glad you found them!

I didn't knew that Pooyan also existed for the 2600 :)
