Atari

It looks like the current Atari corp are attempting to protect their trademark, by sending cease & desists to atari related websites (or atleast atari2600.org):

What do people thing about this, and what could it mean for atari-forum.com?

Www.atari2600.org isn't a retro site. Looks like the domain is owned by a cyber-squatter.

Looks like someone (from whichever company owns the Atari brand these days - Infogrames?) is fishing for monies.
My main site: http://www.mug-uk.co.uk - slowly digging up the bits from my past (and re-working a few): Atari ST, Sega 8-bit (game hacks) and NDS (Music ripping guide).

I develop a free Word (for Windows) add-in that's available for Word 2007 upwards. It's a fix-it toolbox that will allow power Word users to fix document errors. You can find it at: http://www.mikestoolbox.co.uk

Yes, and I think any judge would see it for what it is. Doing nothing about it for so many years makes it pretty obvious at best.

Seems it was just a big misunderstanding, altough it's quite bad thing that this retro boom is going commercial :(

I think Lonny is right - there is actually a defense for these things, revolving around that simple fact (that the people bringing the charges did nothing for years about it - amounts to "Acquiescence"). Estoppel? Is that right?

There was some legal disclaimer that went with the sale too something along the lines of 'Atari software and hardware must remain as one company' seems it was aquired and disregarded! what happens when _the_real_atari community is 'in fashion' or recognised as worthy?

I guess this is off the back of the Apple Atari app store success! anyhow! unnecessary!!

This whole retro 'thing' is based on poor education of the status quo! how computers actually ought to work? why people aren't 'a pcee' and that it doesn't matter how many windows they have at home!
