Recent Topics - Motion to move it up the board hierarchy

Postby catmando » Thu Jul 14, 2011 12:59 pm

Any chance we can move the 'Recent topics' section between the Demos and Announcements sections, seems strange that we have the topics that are trending the most right at the foot of the opening page. The number of recent posts displayed could be cut down from the current 10 to say 5 if people are concerned about space.

That would look great. However it is best implemented as a new 'style' so that users can select between this and a 'new' style. The added complication comes with regards to the phpbb modifications. Most mods require additional code in the styles so it means maintaining these changes in another style and also introduces more testing and another layer of ball ache when phpbb is updated (where all the mods may or may not require updating).

I guess the question is whether the benefits this brings to people would really outweigh the amount of time/effort it would take to properly implement?

Interesting you mention that about phpBB. That was precisely what made me choose MyBB instead of phpBB for my student forum. Though I understand why you went with phpBB when this forum was created as MyBB was barely a twinkle in the eye. Though I must say, phpBB is still one of the most popular forum software's out there. For me as I'm still very much a learner when it comes to php I want easy maintenance. :-)
