I wondered the same thing several weeks ago. The reports I read at the time suggested it was a bug with phpBB that manifested itself under certain scenarios (when a post is split/merged and the title had also been altered).

I looked at a few posts here and couldn't spot the same behaviour within the threads, but I'm keeping an eye on it to see if I can spot the point it happens (if indeed it reoccurs - I did update phpBB shortly after resurrecting the board so I may have implicitly fixed it).

when you see it, just right-click and 'view image' and it'll tell you the filename.

Normally the filename will tell you what it is or give a clue to the meaning
But this one is a combination of two image files, one the topic_read or hot_topic or whatever and the other file is MrGreen.gif.
So it does not provide any clue.

(I looked at the html code before asking... )

I agree with your explanation so far, green face does not mean sea-sick, but only that I have commented on a subject in the past. Going out on a limb: seeing the same behaviour here - without being logged in - on my work laptop like you do, try to clear the cookie cache and check again. My guess is that some cookies survive an atari-forum.com session and will still contain the user's name which obviously is a bug in the forum software because it exposes the user's alias to anybody.

Cheers,
T.

I think it's a bug... However not 100% sure what's causing it. If I look in the Admin Control Panel, there is a section for Topic Icons - Mr.Green is right there at the bottom.
Topic Icons.jpg

There is a mod available that sets the default icon for topics to the last icon in this list. However if this was installed, I would expect all topics to get this icon.

So maybe a cascade occurs (how? when? & why?), Mr.Green is somehow left set as a variable that isn't reinitialised when a post is submitted...

I can't see anyway for users to actually change the Topic Icon so I guess Silver Surfer took this out (maybe in the 'style' pack).

Just for kicks, I'm going to change the order of the Topic Icons list (I'll put the Star at the bottom) - then we can see if it is this list that has some kind of influence...

I see Mr Green on some topics I've never read, nor posted in.

Change has been made - existing posts won't be affected, however if the same circumstances arise again, I will know whether the list of topic icons has an effect (I.e. Do I have a Mr.Green or a star?).

It's 'wait and see' time...

It's global - we are all seeing the icon on the same topics. A set of circumstances (as yet unknown) is causing the icon to appear against some posts. I'm hoping my small change will give me some indication of where to look.
