The phpBB logo that is there at the moment is 139px X 52px.

Oh well, I will just have to put up with it.

Hopefully it is just a matter of getting used to something new only time will tell I suppose. :)

I have installed the French language pack now which can be switched to in the User Control Panel.

I had hoped that it would be possible set french as the default language in the Mjj forum and Chat [Fr] forum but that wasn't possible.

Well done Silver Surfer! I know from experience it's a very scary moment when upgrading a forum. As long as the databases are saved beforehand at least there's a fallback. :D

I've never used phpbb3 admin section so I don't know if avatars can be moved to the left with a simple setting but it's horrible having them on the right side!

Saw a preview of this a few months back and thought it looked odd but not "odd" in a wrong way - more of a "mad uncle who's harmless" way :)

Don't all rush at once with the "I'd like this sub-forum adding" requests - got some learning myself to do first!
Having sold 99.9% of my 1300+ collection of originals, I'm taking a bit of a back seat on the forum. I'll still do the front-of-house admin tasks as and when they're required but, for now, I'm enjoying my Xbox 360 time too much :)

I agree in part. It does look nice and shiny but I don't think the unread posts stand out as well as before and I also agree that having the names and avatars on the right is wierd. That said it looks like the upgrade has gone pretty smoothly and I'm very glad the forum is back up :)

With a little help via MSN from Silver Surfer and a damn good tutorial .. I edited the live version of the forum and got the avatars back to the other side of the screen as they used to be :)

Chalk one up to me for not buggering it up big style - just got to sort out why the "Online" tag appears behind the avatar now.....

Looking good! One feature I'd *love* to see added is RSS feeds, maybe just for the 'view active topics' page. Apparently the GYM Sitemap and RSS mod does it, (dont quote me I'm no expert with forum s/w, found it via google).

I'll be entering the logo competition too for sure :D

Well, because i think it should be that way.
Check again:
http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopi ... &sk=t&sd=a
or just the picture here:
http://www.darksideofthecarton.com/docu ... t_post.png

And I think it's more rational that way.

So, you fixed something you should't have fixed?

Is it my widescreen monitor or is there an unnecessarily large gap between the user info and the topics? :?
Or could it be that we are now allowed unnecessarily large avatars? :D

EDIT: Just tried adjusting the size of the browser window and the divider squashes in when I shrink the width of th window, so it is my monitor after all
Good-o on getting the avatars back where they came from BTW

I like the new "Manage Foes" option in the control panel

Also, I can't find a forum statistics page anymore. Is it gone? It was very interesting to check once in a while, to see what the most popular threads were, or who contributed the most posts (useful or pointless). It was also a quick way to access the best attachments on offer.

I would like to suggest two more things:

- Is there a way to remove the bots from the "who's online" list? I guess no one really cares whether Google bot is just doing its part or not?

- Any way to make the admin names look a bit less flashy? Everything's in shades of blue, just the admin's names stand out in bold red type - I think this distracts a bit from the content proper... ;-)
(not that I want to take away any deserved glory, mates. )

The online graphic setting would be in a .css file. They're usually commented as to what they do in community projects so it's a case of looking for the x setting or whatever they've chosen to call it and change it to the width of the name box on the left minus the width of the online graphic.

We were using a different tutorial last night for the "avatar shift" .. I'll look at the code tonight behind the style and see what this other tutorial gives as extras.

All part of the steep learning curve :)

Pardon the swearword, but cluck! What the hell is this?

I just tried to post a reply, but it ended up as some kind of draft that I can't access....

Also, the last post thing is missing, which I miss a lot, and without it I get the feeling the board is dead. :(

Finally, the look and feel annoys me a lot, too much space is used to make it look fancy, the actual content of the board (the messages) seems to be taking second place, and is no longer very "prominent".

Are you sure? The "View the latest post" is where it used to be.
The most useful thing is the little pic on the left of the thread title that leads to the first unread post in every thread.

Sorry, I may be didn't understand what you're looking for.

My main problem is different. The font. I love Verdana and I've set my browser's default font to it. But now in this new forum I keep on seeing this Arial one. I hate Arial. And I don't know how I can change it.

I've got to say it, and while it's considered very low to complain about something that is free afterall...

I preferred it before. I like simple. But that's just my feeling. I don't like all of these shaded buttons and all that.

Can we have an 80x25 text forum? Thing is that I used to view this on older computers too. Alot of these new script and Java enabled apps make my browser crash. The PC World and Curry's websites are notorious for it (mainly why I don't like the sites).

Is there a text only option?
If I don't answer or appear to have forgotton then email again, I'm scatty! :)

Yeah well, some of the complaining we do is probably just because we´re not used to the new layout.

I'll give it a few days, before I go on with my ranting.

Re: Forum upgrade

Postby Desty » Sun Jan 20, 2008 6:48 pm

I like it so far, but visually it's harder for me to distinguish between posts - there's no well-defined border between each person's post so successive ones seem to blend together. Maybe because the post background (powderblue or something) is a bit close to white. Maybe there's a way to delineate posts somewhat with a little dark border?
The only other minor annoyance is probably what Greenious ran afoul of initially; the buttons down the bottom are "save, "preview" and "submit", where we were used to just preview and submit before. That'll just take a little getting used to, though.

Anyway, other than that it's kinda cool.
