Forum upgrade

Postby Silver Surfer » Thu Jan 17, 2008 2:50 pm

Hi,

The forum software has been upgraded to the latest version and we have quite a lot of new features to play with. If you are interested to read about the difference between the versions go to http://www.phpbb.com/about/features/

The upgrade went well though it took much longer then expected which I am really sorry about. The thought was to complete the upgrade during the night(CET) however that proved to be a fantasy due to our massive amount of attachments on the forum.

I have seen suggestions on how the forum should be structured in the past months and now with the sub-forum feature I think it is time we move ahead with these ideas. So discussions and ideas on the subject are welcome.

Kind regards

Must have been quite a work! Thanks for upgrade, it takes a while to get used to this but after a few days it should be ok.

Only thing I'm missing is the Atari Forum logo of some sort 8)

Nice work.

If I could just make one request.

Any chance we can have the Avatar's on the left, like all other BB's?

as Marakatti said, the logo isn't there yet and to be honest I don't think it will fit into the new color scheme.

What do all of you think, a new logo or put the old logo in and just close our eyes and pretend its great?

You know, that is my biggest beef with the new design too. But maybe it is just a matter of getting used to something new, I think we should wait and see if it is possible to adapt to this. :)

The advantage of running an unmodified forum is obvious in update times, this is the first time we have no mods installed in 6 years

Surely it's a config rather than a modification?

Nope; doesnt look like it.

Nope it doesn't look like it is a configuration if we are using phpBB 3.0 with the ProSilver style

I'm going to agree that I want the avatars/user info on the left again. It's more natural to see who is speaking prior to hearing their words, not after.

"View active topics"?
search.php?search_id=active_topics

Just to the right of "View new posts" on the main page.

Look like a complete new place now 8O . It will take some reads to get used to it.
I would also like to see the user on the left.
Why not make a competition for a new logo? There are some great artists here :) (me excluded).

EDIT: Links open in the same window, better would be a new one.

Why not have something like that horrible Pouet place where random logos appear each time the page reloads?

hmmm not sure I like the new look and feel, doesn't seem as intuitive as the previous version and definantly not as clear.
Oh well, I will just have to put up with it.

Richard.
