R-Type Deluxe screenshots.

Postby bod/STAX » Thu May 21, 2015 10:27 am

As not many people have seen or hear much about this game since the demoversion was released
here's some preview screenshots for you that I uploaded to Facebook yesterday. The planned
release is at STNICCC 2015 in December. Enjoy!

Very colorful. And smooth, I guess :D
Famous Schrodinger's cat hypothetical experiment says that cat is dead or alive until we open box and see condition of poor animal, which deserved better logic. Cat is always in some certain state - regardless from is observer able or not to see what the state is.

All graphics and music are now completed thanks to Unseen Menace, Templeton and DMA-SC. I just have to
write the level specific code, make up the levels and get couple of things working properly.

Frame rate is still something I have to optimise. Minimum is 25hz and drops depending how
much activity is on screen. TItlescreen and Endscreen are at 50hz. It's still very playable.

This new version seems to be very good graphically wise. Can't wait to have the real thing on my STE :)

Looks nice!!
Great!!

Just a question will it have the background switching in the first level as in the original arcade version ( from starfield to spaceship). Or will it stay starfield as in the amiga and orginal st version.

The graphics stay as a starfield. As part of the optimisations I have removed sprite masking so if the background
changed to the spaceship the sprites+background would blend together it all became too confusing.

Hi Bod, I've got all the Arcade music already ripped and processed if you want it?

I used it in the Jaguar port I recently did.

R-Type (Jaguar Port)

Let me know if you want it, I can't post it here due to the really tiny file size restrictions on attachments.

Looks nice.

I'd prefer keeping the ST chip music and just have smoother scrolling as STE enhancement, but then I've got the arcade PCB to play the proper version on anyway ;)

R-Type was the game that blew me away on the ST, I saved up for a 1MB upgrade just to play it, even if it is only marginally better than the master system version. I never liked Chris Huelsbeck's Amiga intro music (I'm a huge fan of the Turrican OST though), for me the level 7 music used on the ST intro screen is far more atmospheric and menacing, and in some ways the YM sound is meatier than the Arcade version.

/shrug. opinions eh? nice work anyhow.
