Atari TT030: Buzzing sound

Postby dhedberg » Thu May 16, 2019 12:00 pm

Hi,

I connected a pair of speakers for the first time to my TT yesterday. Quickly noticed a pretty bad buzzing sound from the speakers when switching on the TT. Seems be worse in some resolutions (ST-Low/Med/High) and hardly noticeable in others (TT-Low/Med).

Before I dig into this I need to ask if somebody else have experienced this? Is this a common problem with the TT? Any fixes for it?

Thanks,
Daniel

Yes my TT had this, I bought the Exxos STE DAC noise filter from his shop and it fixed it. You install two little PCBs on each DAC. They are identical to the STE.

You may want to do the mixer fix whilst there too so that ym is not so much louder than DAC

Yes, I was planning on doing that as well. Both issues are pretty bad and need to be addressed. A bit surprised that Atari didn't do anything about these issues considering all revisions the TT went through.

Well you see it could be environmental, similar to how some people get usb feedback ground noise in their modern systems and some don't. Depends on a lot of things.

Mine would even change the buzzing frequency when moving the mouse cursor lol.. so when moving the mouse across the screen it would go bzzzzzzzz... Till I stopped moving it.

I have wondered if this happens on 110 volts / 60hz set ups?

I’m on 110v 60Hz...

I do have a bit of faint noise on the video output though so my machine is not a model of perfection, lol!
