TT and monitor stand

Postby damanloox » Fri Apr 13, 2018 7:56 am

I recently acquired two TT machines. I have nice 18inch monitor that would suit TT perfectly but I'm a bit afraid to put it directly onto TT case (the monitor is about 8kg). do you think it's "safe" to put it directly on top of TT? Or perhaps there are 3rd party stands like the ones on ptc1426 monitors?

You mean a huge CRT monitor on top of the TT?
I seen photos of these setup all over internet.... for example
Image.
So I guess it is OK to do so..... but then the plastic have aged now.

yeah.. I saw those pictures as well but I'm not willing to take the risk. I've been waiting for my TT for too long to destroy it... I'd rather build a stand from wood ;)
But I'm guessing these CRTs were way heavier than 8kg so I'm not sure... I'd love to be able to buy a custom stand (like on ptc1426) but I don't think they are available anywhere... I'd even buy ptc1426 just to get that stand...

I gave one away here (ptc 1426) 2 months ago, viewtopic.php?f=33&t=33209.
I would not be scared using a PTC1426 on top of the TT but I have a TTM194 too...ermm that's a no.

My solution. Built a couple of these and let the shelves over hang enough on others to shade the monitor from the 3 3 foot led celing lights. Need a lot of light to solder :) Even if the case can hold the weight, moving a monitor around could risk a scratch :?

I had a quite heavy (certainly more than 8kg iirc) EIZO F57 17" CRT standing on top of my TT for 5 years or longer.
There were no problems or defects at all. The case was more or less designed to have a monitor standing on it.
Plus it also looks pretty good this way. But that is just my opinion.

I'm sure the TT was specifically designed to take a monitor. Almost every TT setup I've seen has a CRT sitting on top. Some of those old high quality CRTs weighed a ton, like 20-30kg or even more. I've put heavy CRTs on my Mega with no problems. A desktop computer which you couldn't put a CRT on would be a bit pointless really. You'd need to allocate a huge amount of desk space.

The original colour monitor for the TT had a stand which fitted on the left-hand box so that the edges sat within the trough each side and the back and had a cut out at the front to accommodate the the box section. In other words the TT was specifically designed to support a monitor.
