File selector able to select icons from desktop

Postby Rustynutt » Fri Sep 01, 2017 7:11 pm

I've tried a couple file selectors, all very good..
Haven't found one that has the ability to interpret and associate desktop icon links to actual file locations.

ex: Image Copy to load an image from desktop icon, Photoline to load, and save an image to desktop, but create a desk icon, linked to the files actual directory on storage. Same with Kobold and similar *.prg's.

Purpose for my use is ease of locating an actual file nested several folders into a directory. Some prgs can't have default directories set, requiring time (we all try to minimize) to search original file directory in use.

If this function isn't available, what would be the proper way to implement? Within the file selector, alternate desktop, or under TOS maybe an acc linker of sorts that passes desktop icon dir links to TOS and other apps.

Then if there's something already done, disregard the lengthy post :)

Please excuse my constant wordiness

One of the obvious solutions is to take advantage of FreeMiNT's symlinks.

If you have some drive letters left: MiNT can also create "aliased" drives (drive letters as synonyms for folders deep down the directory tree on a "real" drive). This makes these dirs "one-click" accessible from every file selector.

Cool, I knew about the symlinks, didn't know file selectors recognized them as such. Thanks.
