TT rev a-c to 8MB onboard using simms add back the 2MB STRAM riser board or rev2 stram boards.. upgrade to 8MB offer

Postby Guest » Sun Oct 14, 2012 5:15 pm

HI all TT owners !!!

if you own a 2MB STRAM riser card that uses SOJ type footprint {see attached picture's......}
i can offer an upgrade service if its just 2MB motherboard fitted and 2MB riser card
how it works
you book a slot bY post below or pm me
and send me a working 2MB board REV CA401059 - rev a-b
you'll find this data on the left hand side of a fitted board
i will send direct a tested working 8MB board {ill fit 8MB ram 70ns fast page to a 2MB board that arrives first and so on...}
total cost £25 inc postage
if you have a board that has DIL chips fitted it can also be done
but you need to send me the board ill refit and send it back
as i need to use chip converters for it
ive come up with a better dil to soj converter board and ive asked for 100 to be made they are double boards soldered together
top is SOJ bottom is a sturdy turned pin dil pin set and all will still fit under a 2MB riser card in sockets i checked...!!
so i can do this older type of STRAM riser but will take longer and cost about £35 inc post
10MB is the max it can count to not sure on use i think you need to use the vme port for any more ram
some people say its 12MB it can 'see' total but the pic below is with 8MB onboard and 8MB riser 16 in total but counts too 10MB
you can move it back to 2MB by changing the two jumpers on the 2/8MB risers
just if there is any ste etc program breaks you can limit the ram
i can on request add a switch to the board 4 or 10MB you can mount on the TT somewhere
i can also supply 16X 1MbX4 already mounted to the risers and tested working as a set
incase you have a rev a-c board and stram 2MB onboard as dil chips 256KbX4 type like 4256 is a 256KbX4bits in sockets
but youll need to add a buffer and a resistor to the main boards to use 8MB onboard this applies to all revisions
you can then use someone spare 2MB riser board that also has dils
as most people with rev a-c TT will if they got an addin ram have a 2MB with dils

the risers are quite easy to upgrade
hence my reasonable offer here

if interested PM me

well frank its your 2MB riser will become the next 8MB riser
i have 2 soj board that are 8MB so to decrease any bottleneck
i can mod a board in about 1HR
ive got about 20 8MB fast page 70ns simms 72pin
so plenty of chips and cheep links in the states {see magnum TT topic for ebay shop links}

the cool think is if a chip fails the cart will tell you exactly what ic is gubbed 'first in first out' so will count working till non cell
so any duff ic's are easily caught
this cool thing is i use the falcon to test the 8MB simms first before i reuse there candidate chips
ill see if i can find a clip shut soj holder for testing
i think the holders are cheep
perhaps i can make a riser dil type to soj clip holder
maybe this is better if a few quid more expensive
easy to change out soj ram
this would i think take removing sockets and hard solder the clip shut soj holders
kool

the trick to updating these boards if you feel like doing you own
is to cold test each ADDRESS pin on each ic to each other
then to the address bus
and each data pin for any shorts etc and continuity to its bus

then all WR and RAS CAS bank strobe pins

hi all

i would like to add a 1year guarantee to this mod

you have a year from exchange
if you know the adaption i supplied went wrong
by unplugging it and the TT is ok or if you find an error on a ram cell etc address
i do test them fully though

return it ill repair or exchange it

and help fully restore any issues

well krupkaj member gets the first one

i have already modded and tested board number 2
and its ready for anyone who wants one

someone from the turkish atari forum posted a message to me saying it was too much money £25
here is the costings

1X 8MB simm 60 or 70 80ns i try to use 70 or 60 £12 for a pair so £6
tracked postage for return of a card is around £9 international or more
so i get a tenner for a couple of pints etc...

i think its a fair price

Simbo, I'm interested in your offer. I'll try and sort out which kind of memory baords I have in my TT's and make some pictures I'll post in here so you can comment which board is most suitable for your mod.

I have two 2 mb boards, C300727-001 REV - 1, populated with 20 pin, 44C256, DIL chips, one has sockets. What DIL chips can I use to go to 8 mb and what mods need doing to the board?

Does anyone have a part number for these chips? Any mods needed on the board?

Well i got three more 2MB boards from a member
one was the dil chip version so i ordered some 1024 dil chips from the u/s stocks {11$ for 16 + 12.50$ post}

and for the two other soic style same as simms
i got two 60ns fast page double sided 8MB simms
you must use double sided 8MB 16 chip

so the two with 2MB after soldering 32 chips are now 8MB band tested out fine

:)

Postby Guest » Wed Oct 23, 2013 7:33 pm

i got 8 more 8mb double sided simms and stripped them to ic's
so i upgraded two more board so i have a 2 board buffer
16 ic's take off and solder on and tested

so if you have a 2MB TT030 stram board
and want too spend £25 inc post
you can add another 6 MB to make 10 MB stram total mint needed
and the resale value will go up

even the best guy bradly does not put much value in just upgrading the boards he sells

he sells 2MB board still $80 + post some $++ to the uk then tax.. 8 % and postal charge a tenner
and for what?? a few ic's and add his price ship as a friend

terrible business

yes no worries

just pm
ill send my address

i worked out the method to use 2X 4mb fast page single sided 8 chip 72 pin 5v i/o simms for the revision 1 cards that have dil ics
if you have a board like this and not the rev 2 soj type chips
then no worries i think even the same price is fine 4mb simms are ten a $
ill pub the connections chart and some text placed photo and pin out and connections details
as much as i can still tidy phase on this magnum board but its looking great now
the method is cut the dil chips off clean the holes and connect the simms with kinar wire and double sided tape them down once its tested
then some hotmelt glue on fly wires
