Phweather - weather app for Mint (new with Forecast !!)

Postby wongck » Mon Jun 11, 2012 11:44 am

PH Weather weather application, version 1.21 is available now from my webpage.
Image

- Now with city weather details and 5-days forecast !!
- Faster start up by only loading the needed graphics file.

This applications needs Mint with MintNet, PNG.LDG from zView and at least 16 colours (256 or more recommended (ie 32 bits), 16 colours works but you look at lousy graphics).

Works fine. Good job, wongck. Do you intend to add next days forecast, à la zWeather (which no longer works)?

Hello,

just tried phclock and synctime and phwaether on the firebee - it fails because of fmovem instruction. I believe it's relly easy to avoid that trouble, just compile without FPU support...

Not surprise, as I have no FireBee to test with.
Thanks for the hint.

It would be even better if you could compile native binaries for the coldfire. If you are using GCC, that shouldn't be a problem. The coldfire libs are included within recent mint/gemlilb.

Unfortunately i do not have the latest gcc.
I know, I know... I tried to install the latest, but it did not work. :(
So I am back to the rpm version.

GCC version 4.5.2 (latest native RPM I could find) should be good enough. What version do you have?

The problem with micros RPM is: when I wanted to install it on an easyMiNT system, it tried to delete my whole ext2 partition... I had an recent backup.

So I had to unpack the archive ( cpio or mc on linux) and copy the files manually, but that wasn't a problem :)

I don't use the one from Mikro, but the one packaged by Keith Scroggins. Never had a problem with it, and certainly no wiped partition!

The latest and greatest that is available as an rpm from SpareMint..... v2.95.3-----5  (remember to put the stress on the "-------" )
Yeah, I know. It's not the latest and greatest available elsewhere but it is on SpareMint download.

I will try the one again from Keith coming weekend ( if I stop pushing todos on to the weekends  )

The update should be straightforward. If it's not, something is wrong elsewhere. Don't hesitate to PM me for help so that we don't pollute this conversation :)

Yeap. Done. This round, there's no issues. Straight forward. I tried must be 1 year ago and I remembered that it always got wrong lib or something like that. I guess it was because of 2 gcc environment on the system ( 2,95 + newer version). Anyway your advice of removing v2.95 may be the solution.

Thanks !! :D

This one doesn't work on my firebee. It looks like it can not find weather data for my town ( not displaying anything ), and starting it a second time results in a system hang.

Almost my situation but, until now, I haven't experienced a system hang. Most of the time I have a "unknown city" warning, but a few times the weather datas turned out after approx 5/10 minutes.

Sorry guys. Not sure why the FB version not running well. I tried only the 680x0 version and it was OK for me.
It get fairly long to download the city information, but for sure less data transfer than a map !!!
So I am surprise it is not downloading the city information.... :(

Thanks for the screen shot.
If it can get the weather information sometimes, I think then may be the server or network may be the issue.
I just can't think why.

May be a FireBee related issue ? Mono and Vido are experiencing similar problems..

It's not only on the FireBee. I also have sometimes the "unknown city" warning on my Falcon, but much less often it seems than for the previous posters.

The google server replies weather datas almost immediately (at least on my laptop). The query is quite simple (example for London):
Code: Select all
http://www.google.com/ig/api?weather=london, uk

And the weather server replies with a Google Weather API xml message . I'll test on my FireBee/Netsurf this evening.

This seems to be not so correct. I very very seldom get a unknown city (wish the gals come see me more actually    ).
Ok, I have some other ideas, which is replacing current method of getting the data.
As soon as I am done with some enhancement on PH GMap, I will work on PH Weather.
