mintnet + pppd

Postby MaLICiouS » Mon Nov 26, 2007 2:43 pm

I'm trying to connect my falcon to my linux box through ppp using mintnet. I use these command lines:
falcon:

Code: Select all

pppd /dev/modem2 19200 192.168.1.2:192.168.1.1 noauth local

linux box:

Code: Select all

pppd /dev/ttyS0 19200 192.168.1.1:192.168.1.2 noauth local

Occasionally I get a connection. From the syslog on the linux box:

Code: Select all

Nov 26 16:08:56 aeris pppd[3135]: pppd 2.4.4 started by root, uid 0
Nov 26 16:08:56 aeris pppd[3135]: Using interface ppp0
Nov 26 16:08:56 aeris pppd[3135]: Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/ttyS0
Nov 26 16:08:59 aeris pppd[3135]: Modem hangup
Nov 26 16:08:59 aeris pppd[3135]: Connection terminated.

As you can see it disconnects about two seconds after the connection has ben established. On one occasion I got the machines to negotiate, binding to their desired addresses. Then it disconnected after two seconds. Most of the time it just sits there with no console/log output as if the cable isn't connected.
I've tried with and without the hsmodem driver, and 57600 and 19200 baud respectively.

Any ideas?

What version of MiNT are you using? You should never use HS-Modem with MiNT kernels from the last eight years or so. There are dedicated .xdd serial drivers for MiNT, use them.

Besides that I'm afraid I can't help you. I haven't used ppp since 2000.

Oh, my MiNT version is 1.16.1. I do use the MiNT drivers, and I read that they could be used in conjunction with the hsmodem drivers, but since you say so I'll remove them.
Going away to write an exam, will try more when I get home.

Problem solved. Seems like I had a lurking getty on /dev/ttyS0 on the linux box.
Thanks for your help!
