Yeah Mug, just grabbed one and already seeming some inaccuracies in the conversion - there's a few "bum notes" in the conversion of the TLB DSOTS tune (Cannibalistic Def Orgy). Easy enough to fix the tune, but I know you and Lotek want 100% accuracy in conversion....*sigh*

the guy is

SCY/TSCC .. one of our coders and
yes the conversions are not done
100% ... we had to do lots of re-fixes
by hand... which sucked a lot

I suspected that, but I wasn't sure. Big respect to him for getting the routines as far as he did. I am now unsure whether to continue my efforts, or to try and see if I can get his code to do more.

If it were me I'd be more inclined to start from scratch but thats just me :) That said I wonder whether the reason for "bum" notes might be Quartets slide to note command not being handled very well by the convertor. You'll have to try a good few tracks and look for a pattern in the behaviour. I'll plug my Falcon in later this morning and pull off all my Quartet tracks for ya.

Damn that MUG and his nagging....

Got my .4V header decoding working. Admittedly, on company time, but its been a slow day...

Gonna do some more work tonight cos there's nothing worth watching on TV - got next week off too so I hope to be productive on it then too

Moi? Une nagger? :)
Having sold 99.9% of my 1300+ collection of originals, I'm taking a bit of a back seat on the forum. I'll still do the front-of-house admin tasks as and when they're required but, for now, I'm enjoying my Xbox 360 time too much :)

Am I right in assuming that all samples in a .SET file have the same frequency? Just trying to determine whether I need Set.Frequency or Instrument.Frequency in my code....

Also, are the sample offets all relative to the beginning of the file, or from each other contiguously? I am guessing the first option...

The Khz value is stored at the start of the song file but the voice set I'm not too sure on.

The Mr Music source code should explain the .SET header than most documentation will.

However, if you open up the voiceset file in the VOICES.PRG and add up the lengths of the file, and their position in the file, this would tell you if you got the correct offset values?

Yeah, I think thats a different thing, almost like a "Mixer" frequency

Managed to find answers from Scy's code now anyway.

Could someone please upload a Win32 compiled version of q2mod please? I tried compiling it with Visual Studio 2005, but no luck.

When it tries to load the samples I get the following error on sotb.set:
read incomplete
I output the values in read_set() and found len=205, voices_buf_len=188834.

I don't know if there are some endian-ness problems going on.
I had to link it with ws2_32.lib and include winsock2.h to get it to compile with Visual Studio and it uses nested functions which aren't standard C so I moved them out to their own functions.

Any tips on getting it to compile correctly under VC6, VS2003 or VS2005 would be great.
Still got, still working: Atari 4Mb STe, 520STFM, 2.5Mb STF.
Hardware: Cumana CSA 354, Ultimate Ripper, Blitz Turbo, Synchro Express II (US and UK Versions).

Hm well... not sure if the coder still follows the thread.

The converter can be found on my DVD:

http://fading-twilight.atari.org/fading ... OD_V11.ZIP

On the other hand if you need it to make old quartet sounds be replayable on PC, this is now possible with
winjam 2.1 by cream.

Hi Lotek,

Fantastic! Thanks for that. :D It works well on Stampede Tune 7 and SOTB and I like your Zonk conversion.
I always liked the tune for Stampede 7. I'd like to make a little demo with that tune.

That convertor hangs on the version of Zonk included with Q2Mod however.
The output modules I tried won't play on DeliPlayer 2.17 for Windows but they play fine on XMPlay. There must be something non-standard in them.
Is there any chance of the source code being put on SourgeForge?

How many Quartet tunes are there?
Some demo tunes supplied with Quartet,
Digi Demo from MindBomb (6),
Zonk,
Stampede Intros (5),
Fire and Brimstone Intro (Might be David Whittaker custom format?)
any others?

I guess the ultimate covertor would do these without tweaking but it's remarkable that someone worked out Quartet after all these years.
Still got, still working: Atari 4Mb STe, 520STFM, 2.5Mb STF.
