Zak Hacks #21 released

Postby Grazey / PHF » Sat May 03, 2003 11:43 am

Well the 12th January 1999 should be
imprinted on all you chip lovers, there
again maybe not! That was the release
date of GZH #20.

Finally I'm getting round to converting
all the tunes from UMD 8730 to the SNDH
format. For the first release I'm
giving you all the composers with names
beginning with "W". Don't ask why!

I've also included some new rips which
weren't in UMD 8730.

This disk contains 170 SNDH files.
Which equates to a massive :-

670 individual tunes.

Grab it from phf.atari.org

What are sndh files? Maybe a stupid question?
And what new rips have you included? maybe something by MSG from the RGs?

SNDH is the standard Atari ST chip music format. It's not like the
crappy YM format. For instance , the music for Platoon contains 7 tunes
, this is ONE *6kb* SNDH file (12kb unpacked). The equivalent in YM
format you be 7 x 5kb YM files (600kb approx unpacked!!).

They can be played on ST or PC
on ST use sndplayer.atari.org

On the pc use http://www.deliplayer.com

Is "KIDGLOV2.SND" really from Kid Gloves 2? and i am pretty sure the music from KG2 is not made made David Whittaker.

This new Zak Hacks is great.
I wish there will come some good SNDH player for PC that could handle advanced YM2149 sounds like SSD music.

Oh, so the zack hacks is yet another project from you, cool ... This is more PC based then?

I just stumbled upon other UMD demos ... wow, they look al SO cool, I especially love the one with the Turrican menu, that is neat ...

And I have a new favorite tune ... "World of Wonders", that just sounds great ..

Anyway, I'm gonna reviews this UMD series one day ...

Cheers,
Maarten

Maaten: GZH is primarily a ST release, it's just thatt the musics can now be palyed on the PC via Deliplayer.

Aldn: Just my personal opinion :) YM is a flawed format until Leonard implements SSD compatibility. As you know over 95% of all new tunes are SSD.

Stefan:

You are dead right about Kid Gloves 2. I accidentally added a "2". The music is from "Kid Gloves" and not "Kid Gloves 2". Kid Gloves 2 zak is by Justin Scharvona and is of course included in UMD 8730.

Thanks for the spot!

Grazey : so I suggest you rather says "I don't like ym format" instead that. I'm sure you aren't the first to say that. I don't know where it comes from, but I have an idea. Anyway I don't like much SSD, and I haven't said it's bad, crappy or anything else.
And it doesn't matter much
I will stop here
Greetings

It seems that the newest Deliplayer actually can play advanced SNDH Atari music rather good... SSD tunes now sounds good.
