STE boot grey desktop now changing to green - grey

Postby zack4mac » Mon Sep 03, 2018 3:04 pm

Hello, my Atari STE is little grey, the rainbow gem is rolling (mono/colour) and everything else seems OK, sound, floppy. But the desktop is grey instead of green and after a few moments it starts to switch between grey and green and now after about 4 mins they are about equal in the amount of time they display, oh the green is lessening again virtually gone, the same in low and medium res?

I'm lost, thanks in advance for any help.

What monitor do you use? I suppose composite or TV? Could you try RGB monitor or SCART TV?

Your STe is old and the video signal timing is not stable enough for your modern TV. Thus your PAL decoder in TV goes out-of-sync and TV switches to monochrome mode.

What tzok said. The RF receiver in modern TV's are not designed for the poor signal quality old TV's had to cope with.

But anyway, a monitor connection via RGB is infinitely preferable (better quality) than the RF signal or even composite video, which, depending on your exact problem, may well suffer the same occasional colour loss problem as the RF connection.
