Install megafile 60

Postby Bas » Sat Jan 07, 2017 11:48 pm

I have an Mega st 1 with Rainbow TOS on it. With it came a megafile 60. When powered the yellow and red led light up, after 30 secs the red led is off.
I hooked it with the scsi cable to hardisk in port and the Mega 1.
When booting the mega goes to Gem but no sign of the megafile. So for me, as a noob, can somebody simply explain how to install it?

Thanks!

You would need a hard disk driver such as HDdriver or ICD hd utils. I would be surprised if the mega file works.

Harddisk driver for the megafile attached.
This was the official driver from Atari.
Installation instructions etc.. included in ahdi.txt

The big challenge is to put those files on a 720k Floppy.

Also some info is added : see Atari (Mega) ST(E)/TT/F030 harddisk quick faq ver 0.2

The pdf is from 2006. Don't know if a newer version exists.

Enjoy,

Mark

So I manager to put hdinstall and ahdi.prg on a floppy.
I'm having trouble installing an old megafile 60. I have no idea what is on there or in what condition it is.
When using ahdi.prg it shows "unit 0 - no identification" after that the mega file activity led stays on and finally after 3 min the program shuts down.

Is the drive broke or am I doing it wrong?
How and with what steps do I make it work?

Thanks for your valuable help!

Hello,

The first time is always the most difficult time.

You can find the owners manual at :
http://dev-docs.atariforge.org/

The following doc are available :
Atari Megafile Owner's Manual [Rev. B, 1988]
Atari Megafile Owner's Manual (Addendum) [Rev. A, 1989]
Atari Megafile Owner's Manual (Errata) [Rev. A, 1989]

And a lot more documetation. Check out that your connections are OK, etc..
