Best monitor setup?

Postby Driant » Wed Mar 30, 2016 2:13 pm

Hi all,

Just about to buy an ST 1040. What's the skinny re modern TV's / monitors? Can it be easily connected or do I need a specific one?

I only intend to use it to play games - just want to know what people think is best / easiest setup - I am not a soldering soldier :D

Apologies if in wrong forum etc. Tried to find thread but no luck :)

1) buy an ST with RF Output
2) TV with coax or RF input should allow Low Rez display mode, which is used by most games.
3) enjoy

Depending on the world region you live in, get a proper ST->SCART lead and use a TV with SCART input. This will give you a much better picture than RF and most modern LCD TVs with SCART can handle the ST well.

Awesome thanks both. I'm region 2 so a scart lead sounds like the best option. What's the ST end called? What cable am I ordering - scart to what?

Thanks both for taking the time to reply, appreciate it.

The ST end is a 13-pin DIN. It's not very common and as a monitor connector it's ST-specific, so you're looking for a cable that says something like "Atari ST to SCART". You probably won't find it in a store, try eBay, e.g. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Atari-ST-High ... 0978089310

I added some links to other threads in your duplicate post: viewtopic.php?f=15&t=29653&p=292471
