[PICS] Satandisk in Stacy4

Postby spiny » Sun Jan 22, 2012 1:01 am

90% done on this (I still need to modify the blanking plate and make a short power lead adapter) but I thought I'd post pics anyway :)

Stacy 4 :

sticker removed to access top panel screws:

screen panel off:

screen hardware removed - note that someone has been here before and done some interesting wiring modifications ...

old scsi card:

card removed :)

new 'Alan H' card in place :)

VME bus socket:

connected up:

floppy back in place, note the chopped about floppy mount so that the cables fit.
also, the power lead in my stacy isn't long enough to reach , so i need to extend it, but thats for another day ...
Image

all back together and still powers up :)
had a bit of a scare as the first time i powered up, nothing happened, just a blank screen, but it turned out i just hadn't connected the floppy cable properly, phew !
Image

no pics of this bit:

used a Jaguar power brick to run the SD and make sure it all works, and it does :) so it's all ready to roll once i make up the lead. Very happy :)

Nice job - the cable from Alan's card will reach the Ultrasatan (which is
a bit longer than the Satandisk), but its still a very tricky, tight fit with
some odd folds in it. :)

PS Do you feel, as so many of us do, that Atari really didn't want anyone
inside of a STacy? :D

yeah, it's rather fiddly, to say the least. I ended up chopping the shileding about a bit so that the screen cables had more room to 'tuck in' when closing the case.

the power lead problem i have the the molex connector from the stacy powersupply board is -just- too short to plug into the new adapter. the satan / ultra lead is fine and fits a treat :)

Right, I had the same problem - mentioned it to Alan - he recommended just using a standard molex connector extension which I did, worked fine. :)

yeah, i have an 'emergency' one that i made up years ago, but the lid won't shut when it's fitted as it's about a foot long :)
just need to make a short one and i'll be done.

BTW, even though the cable from the Ultrasatan will reach around
the floppy/hard drive cage, it is very tight so I borrowed your idea and
"adjusted" my cage as well.

Thanks for the idea. :)
