finished and charged up

i fitted a 4AMP fuse in the middle of the cells 4/4

i ended up using two part epoxy on the top as no more nails wont bond to plastic too well

now its nice and solid
i sealed round the the seams with black colour silicone rubber

made a nice finish and it fits the book fine

i got the cables for doing the task just waiting for the 44pin headers to add to the cable
and measure it all out adding some velcro tape below the sdcard added adapter
all looking super good for a pre christmas rebuild and send it back to malcom
not heard from him in a while hope he is aok...

i also got the headers for the digital i/o card i will use to decode the cubase dongle and reverse engineer it for a pal chip
{easy once i get the headers}

i made a realtime capture DLL within proteus vsm for my digital i/o card {together with its control pins}
it runs in realtime upto 1MHZ per i/o thats atleast 8mhz capture

so im itching to update the old topic and get some help for the other side {decoded dongle routines would be handy please}

Hi :)
Dont know if already done but
I only wantetd to point
the eye on the
DRIVE P:

If possible it would be great
to dump this drive
P: (meaning the content of it )
of the ST also
not only for preservation issues but
also if sometimes someone wants to
do an accurate emu
or compareable then there is a
dump like this possibly needed :)
aswell as other rom
or tecnical content essential or
indispensable :)

Only as a hint
so long
Dizzy
Everything will become well :)

drive p software is written into the firmware rom {4Mbit}

not sure you can dump it but prob you can

anyway the good news is i got a gender changing cable for the ide
and i got today the 44pin header i need
to add the primary ide {primary is CF 2GB card secondary is SDCARD adapters}
well i got 10 for £1.99 free postage and the cable cost £3.99

so all i need to do now is measure and mark on the cable {6" long}
where i want to add the other 44pin ide header as youll note the gender changer plugs into
the 'foil' {plastic film strip ide the book uses for its internal hdd{the original was gubbed}

need to be exact when adding the needed header into the cable
i dont have the correct tool to clamp it ?anyone any ideas???
perhaps a vice or a block of wood or two and the the door edge or something
never made up an ide cable and dont want to screw it up

once this is done i got a 2GB fuji CF card {cheep £4 inc post}
and ill part it to 4X 511MB using hddriver and the falcon ...and install the driver to it
once this is booting and accessing ill put the whole machine together after a super glue a small strip of cloth to its sides
so the CF card can be pulled out with the machine together so it wont need to be opened up to change it out or service it etc
the sdcard will hide behind the little sliding flat
where the sdcard adapter is mounted is normally where the modem goes ,..
i already made up the sdcard as dos 1GB so ill use bigdos to access it when its needed etc
for transfers

looking forward to the next few days working.. on it :)

looks like i may need to cut the header off the cable and trim the cable a bit perhaps to 4" or so
then its gona be a better fit

so fit two headers and not one
im glad i got 10 now!!! and not just 1

ive given up asking for the english version of the TOS rom
seems others dont want to unplug it and send me it for dumping
i can send back a modified tos rom so 4 bombs isnt there if the hdd driver isnt right

found a decent method on you tube for this task
so
THE PLAN
is tomorrow afternoon to crimp on the first ide to the CF
then measure cut the cable and put on the second one
one mistake its fecked up

so ... measure twice and cut once
ill stick the sdcard adapter down with double sided pads
its clearances are not exact to cope with the cable
once i get the cable and cf card nice ill move on to the sdcard end
i think as close to the gender changer as possible but allowing a fold like 40 mm from the cross over point between the gender changer wires
{crossed over 1-2 2-3 etc }
and the first ide cf master
then measure from there for the sdcard adapter
remember its old ide standard the slave comes at the end of the ide the master in the middle
so the stbook is actually setup quite nice with just some plastic to cut and the power lead cut the daft pcb bit off and use wires
anyway the plan
once this is done
ill add the cf card and put it all together test the lcd is rugged ie i can move it around a bit and no vertical lines appear !!!!
just to be sure i dont need to rework more thru plate holes on its driver inverter board
{hope and pray seems ok just now}

once its all together and booting fine ill extend the driver with big dos

the plan for the cf is to copy my c drive image from the falcon {and frank B s{very good tools }} onto the cf card
part 1 and 2

then leave 3 and 4 free this makes
ab cdef
+p not sure.. anyway lets see what it does is the answer here

big dos is an anytime add for sdcard
however a 1GB sdcard will work tos/dos with hddriver without extensions i think

so ill show the results of all tomorrow

im so happy this has gone so well so far its doing what its told

a big thanks to frank lucus as usual a star for info ,...!!!
without him i would never have even got it too work !!!

it is with great pleasure i can announce that MAL's St-BOOK
is finally ready to wind its way back down south from glasgow

i am charging the batteries and internal cell for 24HR and soak testing it up down power {sleep mode etc}

seems magic so far
as i said before
i used the falcon to partition to 4X 512MB or so all as tos for the CF card {you can access it by lifting out the mouse} then its better for access on TT Falcon if needed

and the big dos driver can be added when access to the sdcard is needed {you can access it by sliding off the panel where the modem normally sits}

i copied all the data off my falcons to it including one of frank B's old c drive
so mal can pick through them and use the sdcard for other stuff from pc mac etc dos partition {or indeed change it to TOS DOS and dont use bigdos}

its only sad that nobody was able to get the english version or part with there chip in the mail to me for copying out
sad but true its still german
every thing works even the dinky little mouse kinda pad
very nice and sweet
and the only thing i am sad about is having to send it back
love it to bits and its been a real pleasure to mod also

It really does seem like someone could have dumped the ROMs by now. Odd...

so now comes the bugs
parted i using the falcon to the cf card 4X512
and used divide so gives 480.4MB per partition type unset {set the four to 512 and click divide sets it by the cf card total size}
now ok....think i had an older hddriver.sys on the falcon and using 8.44 util...?
reinstalled 8.44 hddriver.prg to the c drive as .sys as hddutil does +- adjustments
reboot
when you next run hddutil just load its folders auto folder hddriver.prg....

install it in my case to the E drive {first part of ide secondary ie c and d in my machine falcon are 2X 1GB }
so will become c drive 512 on ste level 512MB primary TOS/GEM and d e f as the same

with default adjustments
then i can reload the then c drive on the book when the cf card is fitted back
all is well boots fine access any part no issue with files or folders now...
even the sdcard worked first time with bigdos but did need re partitioned as i could not access it
this is a hang over from older hddriver versions i used to make it but it did work between 104 and 3 and 4 tos just 2 had an issue now solved to a degree
its a 1GB crap
i mean its not a branded card but its a great card but seems to work very well between pc and book
as i used it between every machine to PC using the same type of adapter
i think this SDCARD to IDE adapter is the best one for retro and ive tried a few any machine ive used it in scsi to ide then sdcard worked fine
with cf or sdcards the first step is to lock a pc no not auto write a boot and part sector to a sdcard or cf on distant USB
to clean it to zero using hexedit
and then move it back to the adapter on the atari and init it

the trick with dos and tos sdcard is to not partition it use the right card
a 512 a 256 or a 1 GB and thats it

and exit the hddutil from the menu then use ctrl alt right shft del to cold boot
then the ram and driver test and setup reruns

then the hddriver is a faster tool too use
uwe should place the manual for it online

just init it as a type
