Hi, I just signed up here and came across this very interesting topic.

I have two ST BOOKs, stored in safe place. I believe one of them has ENGLISH GUI, the other one for sure is GERMAN. I will dig these "beasts" out and see if I am right.

I will let you know.

many THANKS
ill put a link to the tool to use

not sure if you have a way to release the data to another hdd or dump the tos image to the hdd and connect it to a falcon etc
if you cant you can unplug the ic and send it too me i can read it off and send it back
together with a moded chip to allow for a bootup bug the stbook has
{ie hdd fails and it gives 4 bombs instead of booting to tos from what i see ?? not sure but its a bit of fun}

the news is i have the AA 2000mAph batteries now
so ill spend the next few sessions to build it and charge it up
make sure it works fully while mal waits for the cable from the u/s
he is using it too see if it solves a problem for him

then i think i will need to splice two cables together cut to the right headers becouse of the lengh of the cable
the board >> master>>slave cable
the slave header will be too close to the master
so ill need to extend it a bit using another cable
i have a few single 4" cm cables so ill spice one onto the gender changer cable
:cheers:

tos rip is here

That link gave a server 403 error for me, but there is a mirror of that site which does work. Also there is a forum post on here with the exact same file, but minus any readme files etc.

well the batteries
how to lay out AA cells inside the pack
ill look out a 105 deg 5 amp thermal fuse and solder it all up tomorrow and cut off the ribbing on the lower half
the tops looks good to go
its just what to use to seal it
i think rubber silicon seal and clear stuff
this way it can be taken apart
and use some epoxy putty for the spaces left by the saw the guy used to open it
to open a bat back you twist it to break the glue then carefully take it open to break any harder points
using wedges and a paint scraper 1"

nice 1 Thanks.

The battery pack ill post some images up tomorrow

ive built it and left it to set for the day
i mounted the fuse at the back of the pack near the case binding so its easier to change out if for instance the pack gets shorted out
the fuse will prob blow !
so it needed to be easy to change if needed
so just to test it charges up fine
then ill add and bond top cover using a few blobs of no more nails
strong but will give easily
the batterys are fixed in the lower half using silicone rubber and flattened off using a scraper

the cracks between the top and bottom ill fill with no more nails {easy to pluck out}

anyway just the cable
set it up ask malcolm what software he wants on it

now there is 1 issue with the sdcard adapter
there needs to be a card in place to boot up correct i would leave it there anyway
so i used a 1GB card as a transfer drive
when the machine is cold or running you can unplug the sdcard plug to the pc put programs etc and place it back
it will auto refresh using the latest hddriver it works really well
so mounting magic and some desktop is a good idea
dont know if the machine will configure stuff as german
i was thinking to change the language byte at the end of the rom and its crc to show as english
at least this way programs
that a quire to it will then see english and use the right menus

not a solution but a work around
while we all wait with patience for the rom image

i suppose its worth like 20 bucks to pry the image out of bradly koda from best as he will have it for sure

so here is the made up book bat together with its added fuse holder saw in
mid bat fuse is important this pack is 9.6 volts total
so at the mid point add a fuse 2 or 3 amps max

i used no more nails
as its a chalk based adhesive so you just if needed soak it in water for a few days or boil it for 1hr
with the tatties..hihi
to break it fully apart then it falls apart totally {I've tired it}
dont be scared of no more nails its like poo when soaked out {steam cleaner will take it off after 4-5 mins constant}
total = 9.6 volts
still to try it and charge it up as i will wait till i freak out my TT ram tomorrow first

i need too seal the gaps first
and shape the outer cover so its plumb and level to the outer case {elastic bands and a spacer first} then fill in all the gaps and let set
using some silicone sealer

anyway 9.6 volts and ill add a soldered on charging plate !! and fill it all
back fill you can see where i used copper left
ill add a v thin metal plate and sink it in
set all first with more no more nails

i did find some putty 2 part epoxy too use for the joints called metal putty !!
so press it in first then a heavy weight on top let it seam
then tomorrow after dry time ill trim it with a wheel disk

I have several ST Books, they are all English. I need can look into getting one up in 1-2 weeks and making an image of the TOS, I also have some STBook transfer utilities and some other ST Book specific apps from the original developer terminals, I'll look to pull this stuff together and post it up onto atarimuseum.com for download, you have to give me 2 weeks, been very busy.

na this is rubbish
i spoke directly to bradly some time ago
and all he will provide is a rebuild service
you send him your old cell and he fits new cells and sends it back

so he charges a cool $100 for this task plus post this takes the total cost to over £100 + import tax and duty

so the new battery post here is a myth

put it this way my total cost to rebuild this was £12
