TOS-version of ST-Book

Postby keili » Fri Aug 31, 2007 5:04 pm

Can anyone confirm, that a TOS 2.08 exists for the ST-Book?
I've seen this in a french advert for it.

Wasn't the ST Books TOS just 2.06 with added IDE support? In which case 2.08 certainly makes sense? Although I've never seen it in print myself.

There are several programs to dump the OS, but I've always used TOSRIP, works fine for me... :-)

Hehe - have a look at my sig. ;)

Keili - I can confirm it's a patched 2.06.
IDE support is usual for 2.06, but power saving and such are added.
Also there's a drive p: with some tools on it, such as ST-Trans and HDX/ Hinstall.

Well, sorry to have to say that, but both ST-Books aren't working atm.
It might be useful to ask Johannes, Witti, Idek Tramielski or OnkelTom from Atari-Home, or Dan Ackermann instead.
Greetings, Jens

Anyone know if it would be possible to replace the TOS of an ST Book? I have a german STBook... but my german is terrible! I'd like to patch it if possible, but if not change the ROMs? Or any german speakers want to swap STBooks?!?

A not so good workaround would be to use an English language desktop replacement. Although some apps still recognise the German Tos and will revert to using German RSC files.

If you ever work out how to transfer files to and from your ST-Book you should dump your TOS 2.08 for us ;-)

Yeah I was wondering about how to tackle the transfer issue... :? As nice as the STBook is to look at (except for my aforementioned issue with the screen bleed), it is nearly completely pointless/useless!!!

Does a St Book not have a serial port? I don't know, but if it does it's a simple matter to get a null modem cable and Ghostlink to transfer to a PC.

It's getting the software onto the STBook in the first place that is the problem!

It has ST-trans on a rom drive on it, and I have finally found the ST version of the program on the internet for my falcon which I will try out as soon as I pick up a null modem cable from work tomorrow. So we'll see what happens then...

As I write STbook appears to have overheated or something as screen has gone totally black...i'd just got it readable too... arghhh!! This thing is worse than a falcon!!

Not being funny but could the screen going black be a screensaver/power saver thing? Did you try pressing any keys, move the mouse etc?

No... it now does that from boot up (hard reset). Nothing makes a difference! :(
