what was my file two panel manager?

Postby patrick295767 » Sun Aug 05, 2012 4:43 am

Hi,

I remember that I had a file two panel manager that was used under a low resolution. I cannot remember its name?

Would you know some? I had also UIE-III something.

Kind regards

I know of KK Commander. There were also an alternative desktop that operated like this but I don't remember it's name.

Perhaps you mean UIS III (Universal Item Selector), a file selector?

According to my records, Pompey Pirates disk 25 has:
Player Manager
Spy vs. Spy II
Conqueror
Ultimate Darts
Fast Copy III
Universal Item Selector III

So it might be that one. Here is a really good round-up of file selectors, so you can put it in context.

aha!

There was a low res manager on the Picture Concept disk / archive, think that might be on ST Format... unless I have the wrong disk and it was by the Bomb out Bros.

I'll have a dig

I remember that my file explorer was used with a background black and yellow color. I used it so so much. It was very comfortable to use, but I cannot remember well how it looked like and all features.

To run it, I had to boot and run it from autostart or sthg like this. There was no gem (desktop toshttp://www.linux-community.de/var/ezwebin_site/storage/images/internal/artikel/print-artikel/linuxuser/2003/01/emulatoren-unter-linux-atari-st/abbildung-4/1224022-1-ger-DE/Abbildung-4.png)

I must have the floppy somewhere...

Maybe the above information might be useful. this disks seems unknown to me. it looks like it wasnt this ...

I am not sure how fully featured the one I am trying to remember was . I think you could customise the colours and print super small catalogues of your disks!

It's not a Boot manager you are after like SuperBoot or Xboot perhaps?

I did a bit of poking around on the forum and tried out some stuff.

Was it Disk Opus?

On the Amiga there was Directory Opus by Jonathan Potter - there's lots of info about, a nice screenshot here. There's still a Windows version around, by the same people.

Disk Opus was produced after Directory Opus, and has enough similarities that one might suspect it to be inspired by Directory Opus. It's by Thomas Nilsen who apparently ran a BBS in Norway called STand.

Also, for comparisons, there is this article on 2-pane file managers for Ubuntu from a few years ago, which shows just how much inspiration Directory Opus brings...

I know it's an 'archive manager' but doesn't the 'two in one' shell have these functions also?
