Are they re-writes of the GUI rendering portions of GEM or something?

Should just add Warp 9 has a few extras built in, like Pinhead, and a screen saver/ mouse accelerator. Because it is closely linked to Geneva I believe it also works better with that OS rather than NVDI which is obviously designed to work with Magic and TOS. I think it might have been faster in hi-res than NVDI (certainly at one point), but isn't as quick in colour. Oh and it is an evolution of Quick ST (i.e. it was the commercial version of that program).

Just wondering, but shouldn't this program, and similar be in the wiki Essential ST Software List? I did not see it there.

First time poster, long time lurker.

I use cubase on a 4mb 520ste with just a floppy, can I use any of these whizzy graphics accelerators or will I need a harddrive?

I think NVDI 2.x might run off floppy. I'm not aware of having having used the newer versions without a HD though. In all honesty, in your case I'd look at getting a hard drive of some kind (i.e. ultrasatan) anyway. Having a fast VDI is nice, but you are still taking a huge performance and convenience hit by running everything from floppy.

NVDI 2.5 annd Warp 9 run from floppy. I have used them with cubase 3.1 , I have however suffered some Internal errors, not all recoverable from . This may have been due to an increased Midi input from a 'CC' continuous controller.

Try the older VDI accelerator like QuickST and TurboST. IIRC, They run from floppies.

I tried but I couldn't make it 'install' it failed after asking for a serial number, I typed the one that came with the zip from earlier in this forum post. I got version 1 to run though, seems snappier though I've had my first Cubase crash in ages so...

I just found out about ultrasatan, is Zaxxon still taking orders? I suppose that's a question better suited to him but I just wondered if anyone knew the general status of the project/availability.

I couldn't get Warp 9 to decompress. I'm a bit new at this msa lark.

TurboST rings a bell somewhere in the dusty corners of my mind...

Cheers for all the pointers.
