Floppy integrity testing.

Postby GregganG » Mon Nov 12, 2018 9:50 am

Hi,
I've been noticing some old floppies get read/write errors, after formatting with for instance fcopypro, so I'm wondering if there's a software (atari or pc) that can format and verify the integrity more thoroughly by write and verify?

Cheers

If you tick "Verify Destination" in FastCopy 3 or 4 then it should verify after format.

For more thorough testing you could try that diagnostic util we recently discovered over here :

viewtopic.php?f=104&t=34517

it has a "Floppy disk integrity test" option that will write and verify an already formatted disk.

On the PC (DOS) I used VGA-Copy (freeware by now) for formatting floppies. Whenever it marked a track as "weak" then the reliability was at least questionable.

BTW: got the same problems over here

Exactly what I'm looking for, thanks!
It's a good thing I have hundreds of disks, most of them seem to be in very poor condition after all this time in the attic :)

Thanx, it solved my old floppy tests pretty well :D
